The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The provided plans delineates changes in a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Overall, it is evident that many thing are made or replaced in new redesign cafe. Some new space is also added in redesign cafe. However, the customer will get new facilities in redesign cafe.
The plan clearly illustrates that the kitchen, toilets, bins & tables & chairs are not replaced in redesign cafe whereas, serving area is replaced by making a hot meals area there after the renovation. In addition, inside the cafe a new bar is opened called Salad bar after the renovation of cafe.
The section of staff dining rooms was supersede by take away food section and coffe bar while renovating the cafe. A new section or place is added while renovating the cafe and the section is Barbecue section. Consequently, the owner of cafe makes awesom changes at the outside of cafe which is outdoor seating area. Hence, there are various changes made while renovating the cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main transformation from staff dining rooms to takeaway and coffee facilities, and mention the new salad bar, barbecue and outdoor seating. The overview also recognises that the café gained facilities, while several original features remained. These points address the task, but some are not fully or precisely reported: for example, the kitchen and toilets remain, but the bin becomes recycling bins, and the central tables and chairs remain. The response also says the barbecue is a new section without locating it outside to the south-west, and does not mention the new southern doors or the four outdoor tables. Develop the overview and comparisons with these key spatial details for a fuller account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In addition” and “while renovating” signal relationships between points. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph repeats the general idea that changes were made rather than adding a clear concluding comparison. Several linking expressions are awkward or repetitive, including “Consequently” and “Hence,” which do not show a clear cause-and-effect relationship here. Group the changes by location—inside the café and outside—and use fewer, more precise transitions. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow which areas were retained or replaced.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “take away food” and “outdoor seating,” so the main changes are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “many thing are made,” “new redesign cafe,” “a new bar is opened,” and “awesom changes.” There are also spelling errors in “coffe” and “supersede.” These choices sometimes make the description less precise, particularly when distinguishing a facility from a section or describing a replacement. Use standard plan-description terms such as “was converted into,” “was added,” and “remained unchanged,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a clause beginning “while renovating.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur across sentence structures and agreement. For example, “The provided plans delineates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “many thing are made” has a plural-form problem. The sentence beginning “The plan clearly illustrates” also has an awkward construction around “whereas” and “after the renovation.” Articles and sentence boundaries need attention, as in “a new bar is opened called Salad bar.” Practise accurate past-tense passive forms for changes, such as “was replaced by,” and proofread each sentence for agreement, articles and punctuation.
