Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation clearly: the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee facilities, and outdoor seating with a barbecue is added. You also note that the kitchen, central tables and chairs, and toilets remain. This covers the key before-and-after features and gives a relevant overview. Some details, however, are inaccurate or unclear: the bin was on the eastern wall, not the western side, and the toilets were in the south-east corner. The salad bar, a notable new feature, is omitted, and the statement that the staff dining rooms were in the central area misplaces them; they were along the north wall. The overview is relevant, but more precise location reporting and fuller coverage would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing the former and current layouts. This makes the comparison easy to follow. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical: repeated openings such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition” make the links conspicuous rather than smooth. Some references are also unclear, particularly “these facilities” and “remain the same,” which could refer to different features. Organise details by location or by what changed and what stayed, and use more precise references—for example, “the toilets remain in the south-east corner, while the bin is replaced by recycling bins on the eastern wall.”
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of task-related vocabulary, including “renovation,” “serving area,” “central area,” “outdoor seating,” and “barbecue,” so the main changes are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “modification” and “facilities.” However, several choices are repetitive or imprecise: “modification” and “renovation” recur, while “various facilities” does not identify what was added. Some collocations are unnatural, including “southern end sides” and “toilets facilities.” Choose concise, accurate terms for map features and vary the language used to describe change. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish the new salad bar and recycling bins from the existing features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses and relative clauses, and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “these facilities are modify” should be “these facilities were converted,” and “cafe undergo several changes” needs a past-tense verb: “the café underwent several changes.” The sentence beginning “While, on the other hand” is not a complete, well-formed contrast structure, and “the toilets and recycling bins also remain the same” incorrectly suggests both were unchanged. Practise consistent past-tense descriptions and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries; these improvements would make your varied structures more controlled.
