Student answer (Band 5.0)
the plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
on the first picture we can see redesigne cafe, only with four parts which are the dining rooms,a small place for the toilets a big living room and chairs, first forward we can a kitchen and also a serving area including (all food and drinks)
Indeed,on the second cafe today,we can see they added some places to the coffee such as recycling bins, the place for the take away food and also the coffee which is separeted to the take away.In the kitchen we have one part for hot meals and the kitchen is beyond,in the living room we have a table and chairs,on the left we have the salad bar which is amazing, outside the coffe we have a place for the barbecue and the settlement.
As far as i am concerned, the bar coffee today is more comfortable than before and can cope people and attrack many people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant changes, including the new coffee bar, takeaway section, salad bar, recycling bins and outdoor seating. However, the response only partially covers the plans: it does not clearly compare what stayed the same and what changed, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the original café is described as having a “big living room,” and the current layout is said to have “a table and chairs,” although the central area is labelled “Tables and chairs.” The overview that the café is “more comfortable” and can “attract many people” is an unsupported opinion rather than a summary of the main changes. The response is also five words below the 150-word minimum; the 16 words copied from the prompt do not count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from the original plan to the current café, and phrases such as “on the first picture” and “on the second cafe today” signal this shift. However, the ideas within each section are crowded together, and there is no clear overview to guide the reader through the main changes. The long second paragraph lists features without consistently showing their locations or relationships, while “Indeed” and “As far as I am concerned” do not create useful links for an objective plan description. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing the interior and the new outdoor area. Use clear location and contrast links, such as “whereas,” “along the western wall,” and “in addition.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a café plan, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “recycling bins,” “salad bar” and “barbecue.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the facilities. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the layout difficult to understand. “Living room” is not an appropriate label for the café’s central seating area, “settlement” does not describe outdoor seating, and “the coffee” is unclear when you mean a coffee bar. There are also spelling errors such as “redesigne,” “separeted” and “coffe.” Use precise plan vocabulary and check spelling; for example, describe the central space as a “seating area” and the new exterior as “outdoor dining space.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example, “In the kitchen we have one part for hot meals and the kitchen is beyond,” but sentence structures are limited and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. The opening description lacks a clear grammatical structure, and phrases such as “first forward we can a kitchen” omit necessary words. Articles and prepositions are also inconsistent, as in “outside the coffe” and “the place for the take away food.” The shift between “we can see,” “we have,” and “As far as I am concerned” also makes the description less controlled. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and consistent present-tense descriptions, then check punctuation and sentence boundaries.
