Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several genuine changes, including the kitchen remaining in the same place, the introduction of hot meals and a salad bar, and the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue. You also note that the toilets remain in their original position. However, the account is only partly complete and some details are unclear or inaccurate: the two staff dining rooms are described as one room, and the bin’s original position is confused (“on top”). The new takeaway and coffee-bar sections are mentioned, but their relationship to the former staff rooms is not clearly explained. The overview is also mostly evaluative (“attractive and innovative”) rather than summarising the main spatial changes. Select the key before-and-after differences and describe them precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic chronological structure: you first describe the former café and then move to “Today cafe,” which helps readers follow the comparison. Some linking phrases, such as “along with,” “In below,” and “Now,” also signal relationships between features. However, the response is largely presented as two long, loosely connected blocks, and the first section moves between the kitchen, seating, staff room, toilets and bin without a clear spatial route. Several references are difficult to follow, particularly “from below corner of hot meals and its right side.” Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the two plans, and organise each description by location (for example, north, centre, east and south). Clearer sentence boundaries and more precise linking would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “tables and chairs,” “hot meals,” “coffee bar,” and “outdoor seating.” These terms show an attempt to describe the plan, but the range is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to understand. “Chart lines” is not suitable for a floor plan, while “innovation” and “innovative” do not accurately describe the physical redesign. There are also noticeable errors such as “cfe,” “baebecue,” and “maneu,” and informal or imprecise phrases such as “get or provide hot meals.” Use accurate plan vocabulary such as “layout,” “redesigned,” “located,” and “was replaced by,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “where” and “in which,” but these structures are often faulty or difficult to follow. The opening, “The chart lines shows,” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “before innovation the cfe looks like kitchen” has problems with tense, articles and sentence construction. Similar issues occur in “Today cafe looks like different” and “both seating,” while missing or misplaced punctuation creates run-on sentences. As a result, readers can understand the general topic, but some relationships between features are unclear. Practise writing short, complete sentences in the past and present tenses, then combine them with accurate clauses such as “The kitchen remained in the same position, while the serving area became a hot-meal counter.”
