Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the kitchen remaining in place, the serving counter becoming a hot-meals area, the staff rooms being replaced by takeaway food and a coffee bar, and the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue. You also note that the toilets remain unchanged. This gives a relevant account of both plans. However, the overview is vague: “there are many changes” does not clearly summarise the main transformation, and some details are unclear or incomplete. For example, the salad bar is described as being “in the left side of staff dining rooms,” rather than along the western wall, and the new southern doors and recycling bins could be reported more precisely. A clearer overview and more accurate location descriptions would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a broadly sensible before-and-after sequence, moving from the kitchen and service areas to the seating and new outdoor facilities. This helps the reader identify the main comparisons. However, the ideas are presented as one continuous paragraph, and progression is weakened by repeated or unclear linking, such as “It was also a change” and “So all the changing in the cafe is showing in the diagram.” References such as “it” and “their” do not always make the intended feature clear. Grouping the changes into paragraphs—for example, internal changes followed by outdoor additions—and using more precise links such as “Meanwhile” or “In addition” would make the account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the plans, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “recycling bins,” and “outdoor seating.” These terms show that you can identify the main facilities and changes. However, the range of descriptive language is limited, and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the changing in cafe,” “the increase of outdoor seating,” and “in the place of staff dining rooms.” There are also spelling errors, including “channged,” and the joined form “take awayfood.” Use more precise map-description language, such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” and “was added,” and check spelling and spacing to make the comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, for example, “The kitchen place remains same in the both diagram” and “Before changing the staff dining rooms was on large area but after it divided into two places.” The intended comparisons are generally understandable, but errors in articles, agreement, tense, and sentence construction occur in several places. Examples include “The following two diagrams shows,” “in the both diagram,” and “The tables and chairs and toilets are remains same.” The opening also begins with the duplicated “The the.” Practise forming accurate past-passive comparisons, such as “The staff dining rooms were replaced by a takeaway area and a coffee bar,” and check subject–verb agreement and articles in each sentence.
