Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You provide a clear overview that the café was significantly redeveloped, and you report several relevant changes: the serving counter became a hot-meal area, the staff rooms were repurposed, the bin became recycling bins, and outdoor seating with a barbecue was added. These details address the main comparison. However, some important features are omitted or only briefly covered: the new salad bar, the two new southern doors, and the fact that the kitchen and toilets remained in place. The description of the original layout is also unclear when you say the staff rooms were “at the centre”; they were along the north wall. Develop the comparison more fully and describe locations precisely to make the account more complete and accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the original and redesigned café. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the comparison. Some linking is effective, particularly “Overall” and “Moreover,” but other connections are awkward or unclear. For example, “Staff dining rooms were located at the centre, following by tables and chairs” does not clearly show the layout relationship, while “following the table and chairs as same as in previous design” is difficult to interpret. The repeated use of “following” also makes the progression feel mechanical. Grouping changes by area—north, west, centre, and south—and using clearer references would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a redesigned space, including “redevelopment,” “converted,” “recycling bins,” and “outdoor seating area.” These choices help communicate the main changes, and most of the meaning remains clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “reconstruction” for the redesign, “following by,” and “enhanced the seating facility.” There is also a spelling error in “indroducing,” and “barbecue corner” is less precise than the label shown in the plan. Aim for more natural map-description language and check spelling; precise terms such as “along the northern wall” or “added” would make the account clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “in university cafe” needs an article, “Staff dining rooms has been converted” has a plural-subject agreement error, and “is now being replaced” is an awkward tense construction for describing the completed redesign. The phrase “located at at the bottom” also contains a repeated preposition. Use consistent past tense for the original plan and present tense for the current one, and check subject–verb agreement and articles. More accurate control of these patterns would make your comparisons easier to follow.
