Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several genuine changes, including the kitchen’s shift to serving hot meals, the addition of a salad bar and barbecue, recycling bins, and outdoor seating. You also correctly note that the toilets were already present. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the main changes, and some important details are missing: the former staff dining rooms became takeaway and coffee-bar sections, and the central tables and chairs remained. The barbecue is described as improving service, which is not shown by the plans. Much of the response evaluates the redesign as “amazing” or attractive rather than objectively summarising it. Select the main before-and-after features and describe their locations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response stays broadly focused on the redesign and uses a few sequencing expressions, such as “Before” and “At the end.” However, ideas are presented in one continuous paragraph without a clear overview or grouping of related changes. The sequence is difficult to follow: the kitchen, food service, new sections, bins, outdoor seating and toilets are mentioned without a consistent route through the plans. Repeated comments such as “The looking after redesigned the cafe” also interrupt progression rather than adding information. Organise the report into an introduction and overview, followed by a paragraph on indoor changes and one on the new outdoor area. Use clear comparisons such as “whereas” and “in addition” to connect features.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt relevant vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “hot meals,” “salad bar,” “recycling bins” and “outdoor seating,” so the reader can recognise several features. However, the range is limited and many word choices or forms are inaccurate, making parts difficult to understand. Phrases such as “the kitchen server the all foods and drink,” “new setion,” and “wonderfull seating plane” do not express the intended meaning clearly. Repeated use of “new,” “looking” and “amazing” also replaces precise description with general evaluation. Learn the plan labels and use neutral terms for changes, such as “was replaced by,” “was added,” and “remained unchanged.” Check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to connect ideas, for example in “after redesigned the cafe,” but sentence structures are mostly limited and frequently faulty. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction make relationships between changes unclear: “The college cafe was redesigned the look of the college werechange” combines clauses without a workable grammatical structure, while “the kitchen only serve the hot meals” has an incorrect verb form. Articles, agreement and punctuation are also inconsistent, and several sentences run together without clear boundaries. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, using past forms for the former plan and present forms for the current one. Then add a few accurate complex sentences with “while,” “whereas” or “which.”
