Student answer (Band 5.0)

the given diagram shows the modification done in cafe of a college. there is a big change in its design. as there are many new things included in new designs suh as take away, salad bars etc.

we can see that in old cafe, there was less facilities available but new cafe is fully furnished. in old design, there was no seperate sections for many things. all meals were served in single area while in new one, there are specific corners for diffferent things as there is a seperate area for hot meals, which is just bys the side of hot meals in the place ofserving area.

then there is seperate coffee bars, salad bars. in old one there was main issue with sitting but in new thereis alot of place to sit. it have outdoor as well as indoor sitting, barbecue area, take away food area.

there are many renovations occur in cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from a basic café to one with more food options and outdoor facilities, and mention several relevant additions, including takeaway food, a salad bar, a barbecue and outdoor seating. However, the account is only partly developed: it does not clearly describe the layout changes, such as the former staff dining rooms becoming takeaway and coffee-bar sections, or the new southern doors and outdoor tables. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the hot-meals counter replaces the old serving area, rather than being beside another hot-meals area, and the claim that there was a “main issue with sitting” is not supported by the plans. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons would make the main features easier to understand.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from general changes to features of the old and new café, and linking words such as “while,” “then” and “as” show attempts to connect ideas. However, the progression is not consistently clear: several points are crowded into one paragraph, and the final sentence, “there are many renovations occur in cafe,” repeats the opening rather than concluding with a useful summary. References such as “it” and “there” are sometimes unclear, and the repeated use of “there is” makes the links mechanical. Organise the report into a brief overview followed by a paragraph comparing indoor changes and one describing the outdoor additions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “take away,” “salad bars,” “barbecue area” and “outdoor sitting,” so the reader can identify several changes. However, the range is limited and some wording is imprecise or repetitive. “Fully furnished” does not naturally describe a café’s facilities, while “main issue with sitting” is unclear; “seating arrangements” would be more suitable. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “seperate,” “diffferent” and “suh,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise plan vocabulary such as “counter,” “seating area” and “recycling bins,” and avoid repeating general phrases like “new things” and “many renovations.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences using “while,” “as” and “which,” but these structures are often faulty, and most sentences contain grammatical problems. For example, “there was less facilities” has incorrect agreement, “it have outdoor” has an incorrect verb form, and “there are many renovations occur” combines verb forms incorrectly. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “modification done in cafe of a college.” These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to follow. Build accuracy first with clear simple comparisons—for example, “The café now has indoor and outdoor seating”—then add longer sentences using correctly formed clauses.
