The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The comparison of cafe , before and after redesigning is:
1. it seemed to be a conjusted cafe and now it has an outdoor sitting to reduce the rush of public
2. sometimes the costumers may have passed by it seeing the place is full but now due to addition in outdoor seating has caused more customers to come.
3. before redesigning the cafe just at the right of the entrance there were tiolets which used to present a foul smell to anyone who enters as a bad expression at first but now it has been cleared.
3. the variety of food i.e salad bar and barbecue has been added now to attract more customers and let them enjoy the meal in more varieties.
4. before it, the staff rooms and every thing was fit in one hall and now all the things has been redesigned to make the look of cafe more aesthetic and catcht.
5. The main area was the kitchen to be looked pretty well organized becauise it fluctuates the main image of hygiene at the cafe. It has been re furnished and the take away or serving the meal has been taken away from it and a hot meals table has been added to let the customers choose by themselves whatever they want to eat.
6. The Ciffee bar is a best addition to all of this that customers or visitirs not only come for having meals, some business meetings can also be held here by having a cup of coffee and sharing the thoughts together to make a good deal at coffee.
All the re designing has made the look of rthe cafe even more pretty and catchy that it will bring more customers and the cafe will become well-known in the town with its good presentation and best meals served at good standards

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several genuine changes, including the new outdoor seating, salad bar, barbecue and coffee bar, and note that the toilets remain. However, the response only partly fulfils the map-summary task because it focuses heavily on imagined effects rather than describing the layout. Claims that the redesign will attract more customers, improve hygiene, or provide space for business meetings are not shown by the plans. Some details are also inaccurate: the staff rooms were replaced by takeaway and coffee-bar sections, not simply reorganised within one hall, and the serving counter became a hot-meals counter. Give a concise overview of the main spatial changes, then compare the key areas accurately and avoid unsupported explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The numbered points give the response some visible organisation, and the repeated before-and-now framing helps signal comparison. However, the ideas do not develop in a clear sequence: the response moves from crowding to toilets, food choices, staff rooms, kitchen hygiene and business meetings without grouping related features. The numbering is inconsistent, with two points labelled “3,” and there is no clear paragraph structure or concise overview. Linking phrases such as “before redesigning” and “now” are repeated mechanically, while some connections between claims are unclear. Organise the report by location or by changes versus unchanged features, and use paragraphs and linking language to guide the reader through the plan.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “outdoor seating,” “salad bar,” “barbecue,” “kitchen” and “coffee bar.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal, which can make the meaning unclear. Examples include “conjusted,” “costumers,” “tiolets,” “Ciffee bar,” “catcht,” and “pretty and catchy.” Phrases such as “foul smell” and “good deal” introduce meanings that are not supported by the plans. Aim for precise map vocabulary, such as “located,” “replaced,” “remained” and “was added,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and some clauses, for example, “before redesigning the cafe just at the right of the entrance there were tiolets,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement, articles, tense and sentence construction occur frequently: “all the things has been redesigned” should be “all the things have been redesigned,” and “a hot meals table has been added” has an article–number mismatch. Several sentences are run-ons or lack clear punctuation, particularly the final sentence beginning “All the re designing…”. The numbered list also contains sentence fragments and inconsistent capitalisation. Use shorter, complete sentences with a consistent past tense for the former plan and present tense for the current one, then proofread agreement and punctuation.
