Student answer (Band 6.0)

A college cafe plan before it was redesign shown in the image. In this plan, four diffierent areas located, in which one of them was kitchen with serving area (includes all food & drink), two staff dinnnig rooms without any partition, small portion of toilets and major part of the cafe was based on the seating area for public. All the area was covered with tables and chairs.

In a redesigned cafe plans, there are multipule changes occured. A one noteable change was outdoor seating with the additional tables and chairs shown in plan. Additionally, a barbecue setup also included outside in front of outdoor seating. Furthermore, inside the cafe a new salad bar added in between the barbecue and the door goes toward kitchen. Bin shown in previous plan was updated to recycling bin in this updated one. Indoor seating area consist on tables and chair remaind same. Staff dining rooms divided into two seperate rooms and converted into take away food and cofee bar. The kitchen area remaind same as in last plan. However, the serving area changed to hot meals area now.

Overall, we can observe a lot of changes in updated plan shared with us. The plan before was very simple but the updated plan shown a clear progress toward design and innovation. This modern look will attract more visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify several important changes, including the new outdoor seating and barbecue, the conversion of the staff dining rooms into takeaway and coffee areas, and the change from a general serving area to hot meals. You also note that the kitchen, central seating and toilets remain. This gives the reader a useful comparison of the two plans. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the staff dining rooms were already two separate rooms, rather than being divided in the redesign, and the salad bar is on the western wall, not “in between the barbecue and the door” to the kitchen. The overview that the redesign shows “progress” and will attract visitors is evaluative rather than a summary of the main spatial changes. More precise location descriptions and a factual overview would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: it describes the original plan, moves to the redesigned café, and ends with a concluding overview. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Furthermore” and “However” help signal relationships between points, and the main comparison is generally easy to follow. Some progression is less effective because details are presented in a list-like sequence, while the final paragraph repeats the general idea of change without adding a precise summary. A few references also make the layout difficult to picture, particularly the salad bar being described as “in between the barbecue and the door.” Grouping changes by location or by what stayed versus changed, and using more exact references, would make the cohesion more flexible and the comparison clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “outdoor seating,” “recycling bin,” “tables and chairs,” and “serving area,” so the reader can identify many features. There is also some attempt at less common wording, such as “notable change” and “converted.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “diffierent,” “multipule,” “seperate” and “cofee,” and several choices or collocations are imprecise: “a one notable change,” “barbecue setup,” and “clear progress toward design and innovation” are not natural or suitably objective descriptions of a plan. “Staff dining rooms without any partition” also does not clearly express the intended layout. Use accurate plan-related terms and check spelling; more precise phrases such as “was replaced by” and “along the western wall” would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and some comparisons are understandable, for example, “The kitchen area remaind same as in last plan.” However, errors in sentence formation and grammatical control occur throughout and sometimes make relationships unclear. The opening, “A college cafe plan before it was redesign shown in the image,” lacks a correctly formed main clause and uses an incorrect verb form. Other examples include “four diffierent areas located,” “a new salad bar added,” and “Indoor seating area consist on tables and chair remaind same,” where articles, auxiliaries, agreement and sentence structure need attention. Tense and number are also inconsistent. Practise complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, past-tense forms and singular/plural agreement when revising.
