Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You give a clear overview of the main change, noting the expansion into outdoor space and the addition of new facilities. You also compare several key features accurately: the kitchen remains in place, the former serving area becomes a hot-meal counter, the staff dining rooms are replaced by takeaway and coffee facilities, and the toilets remain. This covers the task with relevant comparisons. Some details are over-generalised or omitted, however: the two staff dining rooms were along the north wall rather than at the centre, and the response does not mention the new salad bar’s position on the western wall or the two southern doors leading outside. More precise descriptions of locations and the outdoor tables would make the account more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a sensible overall progression: an overview is followed by the former layout and then the current arrangement. Linking expressions such as “overall,” “before redesign,” “at present,” and “furthermore” help signal these stages, and the main comparisons are generally easy to follow. To strengthen cohesion further, group related changes more deliberately—for example, describe the northern facilities together, then the central and western features, and finally the outdoor area. Some links feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “and” in the final paragraph, while “the existing tables and chairs, recycling bin and toilets remain same” compresses several points and makes the relationship between them less clear. More precise referencing and varied transitions would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for describing a plan, including “layout,” “replaced,” “introduced,” “outdoor seating,” and “barbecue.” These choices make the main changes understandable, and you attempt to describe expansion and new facilities. However, several word choices and collocations are imprecise: “significant expansion with outdoor space” is less natural than describing an extension of the café, and “introduced considerably” does not clearly express the addition of outdoor seating. “At the same place” is also vague when describing the kitchen’s unchanged position. Aim for more precise location and change vocabulary, such as “along the western wall,” “in the south-west corner,” or “was converted into.” This would add flexibility and accuracy without requiring more elaborate wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts with “however” and a sequence of changes joined by “moreover.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical errors occur across the response and limit control. For example, “the plan illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “several new facilities are introduce” uses an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “the cafe has shown significant expansion” and “staff dining rooms were present at the centre of cafe.” The final sentence is difficult to control because several clauses are joined together without clear punctuation. Practise accurate present and past forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries; then use complex structures selectively and check each clause.
