Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from the earlier café to a more developed layout, and you note several accurate features: the kitchen remains, the serving counter becomes a hot-meals counter, the staff rooms are replaced, and the toilets stay in the same corner. However, the overview is unclear and includes unsupported claims such as “less organised” before and “advanced technology” now. Some locations are inaccurate: the salad bar is on the western wall, not the southwest corner, and the recycling bins occupy the former bin’s position; the response instead says they are larger. The new southern doors, outdoor tables and chairs, and the barbecue’s position are only briefly or imprecisely reported. Select the main changes more accurately and compare their locations to make the summary more complete and clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the former and current café. This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several linking expressions are repetitive or do not clarify relationships. For example, “moreover” and “however” recur without always introducing a meaningful contrast, while the current-layout paragraph moves from the kitchen to the staff rooms, salad bar, seating, bins, toilets, and outdoor area without a clear spatial order. Some references, such as “there” and “in the vicinity,” are vague. Organise details by location or by unchanged and changed features, and use linking words only where they express the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “hot meals,” “staff dining rooms,” and “outdoor seating,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the description difficult to interpret. “Dramatic information” does not describe a change in a plan, and “less noticeables less design” is unclear. Other examples include “diminished” for rooms that were replaced, “more big in size” for larger bins, and “facilities available now with advanced technology,” which is not supported by the plan. Spelling errors such as “facilites” and “futhermore” also reduce accuracy. Use precise terms for additions, replacements, and locations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the comparison is sometimes expressed clearly, as in “the kitchen is same as before.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and can make relationships difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is often incorrect (“the tables and chairs is,” “the toilets is”), and articles or sentence patterns are missing or faulty (“there was a toilets,” “in present cafe”). Tense and clause construction also need attention, as in “the cafe witnessed … becoming” and “the staff dining rooms is also diminished by tow part.” Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, including the lower-case opening and comma spacing. Practise accurate present and past forms, agreement, and complete comparison sentences before adding more complex structures.
