Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You give a clear overview of the main changes, identifying the new outdoor seating and barbecue, the conversion of the staff dining rooms, and the unchanged kitchen and toilets. These are relevant, well-selected features, and the response compares the two plans rather than merely listing labels. Most details match the plans, including the new salad bar, recycling bins and hot-meals counter. However, “throughout the width of the Cafe” overstates the outdoor area’s extent, and “in front of outdoor seating” is an imprecise description of the new southern doors. The overview also groups several changes together, so the transformation of the north-side rooms and the addition of outdoor facilities could be described more precisely. Overall, the key features are covered, with some scope for sharper spatial detail and less generalisation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing specific changes. The information is generally easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Additionally” and “In addition” help signal relationships. However, the final paragraph repeats points already made about the staff dining rooms and serving area, which weakens progression. The overview also combines several changes in a long sentence, making the relationships between them less clear. Improve cohesion by grouping changes by location—for example, north-side facilities, interior changes and southern outdoor additions—and avoid restating the same comparison. More precise referencing would also help the reader track which features are being compared.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of plan-related vocabulary, including “outdoor seating,” “recycling bins,” “staff dining rooms” and “entrances,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are attempts at more specific description, such as “prominent addition” and “replaced,” but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise. “Resigned” does not mean redesigned, while “available throughout the width” is an awkward way to describe the outdoor area. Spelling and capitalisation are inconsistent in “Cafe,” “availabe” and “extrance.” Use standard forms and choose precise verbs such as “converted,” “added” and “remained.” This would make the description more natural and exact without requiring a much wider vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “Before the change there was only indoor seating” and a sentence beginning “Besides that.” The main comparisons are usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “The map illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “staff dining rooms has been changed” has both agreement and number problems. The phrase “Serving area … to hot meals” lacks a clear grammatical link, while the final sentence fragment beginning “Location and sizes” needs an article and a complete structure. Punctuation also needs attention, particularly the doubled full stop at the end. Check agreement, articles and sentence completeness, then proofread punctuation.
