The two layouts present a collage cafe before it was redeveloped and today respectively.
Overall, the new design for the cafe accommodate more customers and it is now easier to navigate. The staff dinning rooms are removed. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation clearly: the staff dining rooms are replaced by takeaway and coffee facilities, the serving counter becomes a hot-meal counter, and outdoor seating and a barbecue are added. You also note that the kitchen and toilets remain in place, giving the overview a useful comparison. This covers the task well, and the key changes are generally grounded in the plans. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the new entrances are on the south wall, not the north, and the outdoor seating and barbecue are south of the café, with the barbecue to the south-west. The description of the original layout also misplaces the serving area. More precise positioning and a fuller account of the salad bar and central seating would strengthen the report further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an overview is followed by separate descriptions of the former and current layouts. This makes the comparison easy to follow in broad terms, and phrases such as “In the new layout” signal the shift between stages. However, the sequence within the layout descriptions is sometimes difficult to track. For example, “In the west side of the entrance toilets are located” and “Moving along the staff dinning room on the right side serving area was situated” do not establish positions clearly, and some references such as “it” are ambiguous. The overview also presents several changes in a list-like sequence. Use consistent directional language and organise each plan from a fixed point, such as clockwise from the entrance, to make progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “layout,” “entrance,” “sitting area,” “replaced,” and “separate entrance.” These terms help communicate the main changes. However, the range is somewhat repetitive, especially with repeated uses of “area,” “located,” and “replaced,” and several word choices or collocations are imprecise. “Collage cafe” is not the intended phrase, while “the cafe outside area” and “the cafe now have multiple entrance” are awkward. Spelling errors such as “dinning” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise plan vocabulary and vary verbs, for example “positioned,” “converted into,” or “added,” while checking spelling and natural combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including comparisons such as “The staff dining rooms are removed” and “The bin … is replaced with recycling bin.” However, errors in tense, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to limit clarity. Examples include “the new design … accommodate,” “the cafe now have,” and “staff dining rooms was located.” Past features should generally be described in the past, while the current plan can be described in the present; keep subject and verb forms consistent. Articles are also often missing, as in “with recycling bin,” and punctuation is uneven, including the space before the full stop after “entrance .” Practise accurate basic clauses before adding longer structures.
