Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main purpose of the redesign and give a useful overview, noting the wider food options and new outdoor seating. Several key changes are accurately reported: the staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee areas, the bin is replaced by recycling bins, and the toilets remain. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate. The hot-meals counter replaces the former serving area; it is not described as being constructed “in the kitchen.” The barbecue is southwest of the building, not on the right side of the seating, and it is not connected to the main hall. The two new southern doors and the four outdoor tables are also omitted. The response is five words below the required minimum. Develop the comparison with these specific features for fuller coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal progression. However, the description is not consistently organised by location or by type of change, so some relationships are difficult to follow. For example, “outside the kitchen” introduces the salad bar, while the next sentence shifts to the north-side rooms without a clear transition. The final sentence combines outdoor seating and the barbecue, then gives a confusing location for the latter. Grouping changes by area—north, west, east, and south—and using clearer references would make cohesion more precise and less dependent on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “renovation,” “demolished,” “replaced,” “recycling bins,” and “outdoor seating,” which allows the main changes to be understood. There are also attempts to describe spatial relationships, such as “on the west side.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “hot meals section has been constructed” does not clearly describe a counter replacing the serving area, and “barbecue spot connected to main hall” misrepresents the plan. “Dinning” and “know” are spelling errors, while “cafe” should be consistently written as “café” if using the accent. Aim for precise plan vocabulary such as “counter,” “located,” and “adjacent to,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the overview sentence and clauses introduced by “after” and “which.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. Articles are missing in phrases such as “After the alteration of cafe” and “beside it the toilets remain same”; these need forms such as “After the café was altered” and “the toilets remain the same.” The sentence beginning “However, outside the main hall…” also has an unclear clause structure, particularly in “which is on the right side.” Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, as in “Moreover, The” and “Furthermore, The.” Use complete, clearly structured sentences and check articles, clause references, and punctuation.
