Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the broad change from the original café to a redesigned one and gives an overview that toilets stayed unchanged. However, it reports several locations inaccurately: the toilets were in the bottom-right, not bottom-left, and the bin was on the eastern wall below the entrance, not simply “on left side” after entering. The final paragraph is incomplete and omits major new features, including the salad bar, recycling bins, and outdoor seating with a barbecue. The comparison that the kitchen and tables remained is relevant, but the claim that the entrance remained stable is not clearly supported. The response is also 8 words below the required minimum. To improve, complete the account and select the main additions and relocations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the café before and after redesign. This helps the reader recognise the intended comparison. However, progression is weakened because the final paragraph stops abruptly at “and also,” leaving the account unfinished, and the before paragraph moves between the entrance, bin, toilets, seating, and kitchen without a consistently clear spatial sequence. Some linking phrases, such as “across that” and “Moreover,” do not make the relationships between features clear. Organise the details by area or by what changed versus what stayed the same, and use precise references such as “along the eastern wall” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “redevelopment,” “facilities,” “staff dining rooms,” and “counter,” and attempts to describe change with phrases such as “replaced with.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “reinnovation” is not the appropriate term, “dust bin” is less suitable than “bin,” and “wastage” does not naturally describe what a bin stores. “Stable” is also an imprecise way to say that facilities remained in the same positions. Spelling errors such as “vistors” and “entrace” reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of terms for plan descriptions, including “remained in place,” “was converted into,” and “was added.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including “Overall, cafe has undergone significant redevelopment, with several new facilities constructed…” and a contrast using “whereas.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include missing articles in “Overall, cafe,” faulty tense and structure in “Cafe before redesign, entrance was located,” and the incorrect construction “have been remained stable.” There are also agreement and plural errors in “Staff dining rooms has” and “tables and chair,” as well as inconsistent use of past and present forms. The final sentence is incomplete, which further affects accuracy. Practise complete comparative sentences with consistent past-tense descriptions of the former plan and present-tense descriptions of the current one.
