Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main before-and-after changes and give a general overview that the café retains some features while gaining new facilities. Accurate comparisons include the kitchen remaining in place, the serving counter becoming a hot-meals counter, the staff rooms being replaced by takeaway and coffee areas, and the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue. The central tables and chairs and toilets are also correctly described as unchanged. Some details are less fully reported: for example, the new doors are on the southern wall, and the outdoor area contains tables and chairs; the recycling bins replace the single bin rather than forming a “big area.” Make the overview more precise and select the most significant changes clearly, while avoiding unsupported descriptions such as “big area.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a broadly sensible route through the plan, moving from the upper-left facilities to the central area and then to the southern additions. This helps the reader compare the two layouts, and phrases such as “in present design” and “in today diagram” signal the comparison. However, the paragraphing is weak: the opening overview is separated by an isolated, uncapitalised paragraph, while most details are crowded into one long paragraph. Linking phrases such as “first of all,” “after that,” and “as we see” are repetitive and sometimes make the account feel mechanical. Group the overview separately, then organise the details into clear paragraphs by area or by unchanged and new features. Use references such as “this counter” only when the item is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant plan vocabulary, including “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “salad bar,” and “outdoor seating,” so the reader can identify many facilities. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “building construction design” is an awkward way to describe the layout, “big area for bins” does not accurately name the recycling-bin feature, and “barnecue” is misspelled. Repeated use of “today design,” “before redesigned,” and “added” also makes the description less flexible. Learn standard phrases for describing plans, such as “the current layout,” “was replaced by,” and “was added along the western wall.” Check spelling and choose exact labels from the diagram.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer comparative sentences, for example, “the kitchen is on its previous place but hot meal is replacing the serving area,” and you use present and past references to distinguish the plans. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “The given diagram illustrate,” “the building construction design is remain,” and “today design have.” Several sentences also run together without appropriate punctuation, as in the sentence beginning “As we see that tables and chairs.” Practise accurate basic clauses first, then combine them with controlled contrast structures: “The kitchen remains in the same position, while the serving area has been replaced by a hot-meals counter.”
