Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify that the plans compare the café before and after redevelopment, and you attempt an overview by noting the new barbecue area outside. However, the response reports almost none of the main changes shown: for example, the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee areas, a salad bar is added, and outdoor seating is created. The statement that there was “no space” outside before is broadly consistent, but the description is too limited to summarise the plans adequately. The response is also far below the required 150 words, leaving the task substantially incomplete. To improve, describe the key internal changes as well as the new outdoor facilities, and compare what stayed the same, such as the kitchen and toilets.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the comparison and then gives an overall observation about the barbecue area. “Overall” signals a shift to the summary, so there is a small attempt to guide the reader. However, the two sentences do not develop into a clear account of the plans, and there is no paragraphing or progression through the main features. The phrase “which are changed and how its look now” is difficult to follow, while the second sentence combines several ideas without clear connections. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs grouping the changes by location or by what was added and retained. Use clear links such as “whereas” and “in addition” to show comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a few relevant terms, including “cafe,” “barbecue area,” “construction,” and “outside,” which show an attempt to describe the redevelopment. However, the vocabulary is very limited for a plan-comparison task, and some choices are inaccurate or awkward: “graph” does not describe a plan, “collage cafe” is unclear, and “rebuild” does not naturally describe the new outdoor area. Spelling errors such as “illustrats” and “diffrence” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of location and change vocabulary, including “redesigned,” “replaced by,” “added,” “along the western wall,” and “outdoor seating.” This would help you report the features clearly without relying on vague wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts two sentence forms, including a longer introductory sentence and an overview beginning with “Overall.” However, control is weak: “which are changed and how its look now” has an unclear clause structure, and “in old there have no space” lacks a clear subject and uses an incorrect verb construction. The final phrase “now its rebuild out side of cafe” also has problems with the verb form and sentence structure. These errors make parts of the message difficult to understand. Practise forming clear present-tense comparisons, for example, “The café has been redesigned, and an outdoor seating area has been added.” Check subject–verb structure, articles, and possessives, and use a full stop to separate complete ideas.
