Student answer (Band 6.0)
The image shows the before and after of a restructured college cafe and it's beautification.
Overall, the indoor sitting area is repurposed and there are some other changes in the kitchen area also.
Starting from the room with the kitchen and the the area for serving food and drink, the serving area is replaced by Hot meals section. While moving towards the indoor sitting area, the staff dining rooms are now redesigned and there are two sections made, one is take away food and the other one is coffee bar. Salad bar has been introduced in the left of the entrance from left side. There was only one bin before renovation but now there are multiple bins installed opposite to the salad bar.
Now moving outside the cafe, we can see that outdoor sitting area is been beautifully designed with barbecue portion and the seating arrangement. Now this new design have two entrances from the the outdoor sitting are and three in total.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main redesign clearly: the former serving counter becomes a hot-meals section, the staff dining rooms are replaced by takeaway and coffee areas, and outdoor seating with a barbecue is added. These are relevant comparisons, and the opening overview recognises that the indoor space has been repurposed. Some details, however, are unclear or inaccurate. The new recycling bins are described as “multiple bins” opposite the salad bar, whereas the plan places them along the eastern wall, replacing the former bin. The account also omits that the toilets remain in the same position and that the central tables and chairs are retained. “Three in total” is ambiguous because the plan shows two new doors to the outdoor area, not a clear total of three entrances. Covering these features more precisely would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable sequence, moving from the kitchen and former staff rooms to the central area and then outdoors. The opening overview also gives the reader a general sense of the changes. However, the progression relies heavily on conversational signposts such as “Starting from” and “Now moving outside,” which make the report feel more like spoken directions than a concise map summary. The long middle sentence combines several changes, and the reference “opposite to the salad bar” does not clearly locate the bins in relation to the plan. Grouping the indoor changes into one paragraph and the outdoor additions into another, while using precise location language, would improve cohesion. The organisation is generally understandable, but links and referencing are not consistently controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “take away food,” “coffee bar,” and “outdoor seating.” This allows the reader to understand most of the redesign. Some choices are imprecise or informal for an academic plan description: “beautification” suggests an aesthetic improvement not shown by the plan, while “beautifully designed” is subjective. “Sitting area” is less suitable than “seating area,” and “portion” is not a natural collocation for the barbecue space. There is also repetition of “area” and “design.” Aim for neutral, precise terms such as “section,” “facility,” and “was added,” and use location phrases that match the plan. This would strengthen accuracy and flexibility without requiring unnecessarily elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex comparison beginning “While moving towards the indoor sitting area,” and most of the meaning remains understandable. However, several errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction limit accuracy. For example, “outdoor sitting area is been beautifully designed” should use a correct passive form, and “this new design have” has a subject–verb agreement error. The phrase “there are two sections made” is also awkwardly constructed, while “the the” and “from the the” show insufficient proofreading. Some sentences are long and joined in ways that make their structure less clear. Practise accurate passive constructions and agreement, then check each sentence for repeated words and complete, well-formed clauses.
