Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main transformation clearly: the café gains outdoor seating and a barbecue, the serving counter becomes a hot-meal area, and the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee facilities. You also note that the toilets and central tables and chairs remain. These points give the response a relevant overview and cover several important comparisons. To make the account more complete and precise, include other notable changes, especially the new salad bar and the two new doors to the outdoor area. The statement that the bin became “three different recycling bins” is not supported by the plan, which labels the feature simply “Recycling bins.” Clarifying that the toilets and seating area remain in their original positions would also strengthen the comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. The sequence from the general additions to the north and eastern sides helps the reader follow the comparison. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear. The overview begins “Whereas staff dining rooms…” as a fragment, and “While toilets, tables and chairs remained the same” is also not a complete sentence. The phrase “As well as” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point, while “also” is used to add another feature without a clear relationship. Use complete sentences and organise details consistently by area or by what changed and what stayed the same; this would make the progression more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “renovation,” “converted,” “eastern side,” and “outdoor seating.” These choices communicate the main changes, but the range and control are uneven, with several imprecise or unnatural expressions. “Attractive additions” is an unsupported evaluation rather than a neutral description, and “two different rooms” does not clearly name their new functions. There are also spelling and word-form errors, such as “ilustrate” and “todays,” and phrases such as “barbecue setup” and “on the same place” are not natural in this context. Choose precise labels from the plan and practise common collocations for describing changes and locations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex structures, including “While toilets, tables and chairs remained the same” and “which is converted into hot meals,” but control is limited and several sentences are incomplete or awkwardly formed. For example, “Whereas staff dining rooms converted into two different rooms” lacks a finite verb, and “Before the changing in cafe, there was no outdoor seating, barbecue setup” has an unclear opening and incomplete parallel structure. Tense and article use also need attention: “in todays cafe” should be framed consistently as a present-day description, and “the same place” needs an article. Aim first for accurate complete sentences, then add subordinate clauses; check verb forms, articles, and punctuation during revision.
