Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main purpose of the plans and give a general overview that the café was modernised, including new food facilities and an outdoor area. You also report several accurate changes: the serving counter became a hot-meals counter, the former staff dining rooms were replaced by takeaway and coffee sections, and recycling bins and a salad bar were added. The toilets and central seating are also noted. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the salad bar is on the western wall, not the eastern side as your description suggests, and the outdoor seating is south of the café, with the barbecue to its south-west. The overview could also identify what remained unchanged more clearly. Select and describe the key changes with precise locations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the original plan and a comparison with the current layout. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several locations and changes are combined in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, “The western side are not quite off change just before here bin and right now after recycling bins here and toilets are still there” mixes the bin change, toilets and an unclear reference to the western side. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “In contrast” are useful, but some are not attached to a clear comparison. Group changes by area and use clearer references such as “along the north wall” and “in the south”.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to describing plans, including “underwent,” “principal change,” “modernization,” “separated,” and “rectangular.” These choices show an effort to use more than basic labels. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word choices often make the description hard to interpret, as in “norther arre,” “middel,” “melas,” and “signeficantly change.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “food bar” and “the whole are of middele to east side.” Use the labels from the plan accurately, and practise common map-description collocations such as “was replaced by,” “was added along,” and “remained in the same position.” Proofreading spelling would make your meaning more accessible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and more complex comparisons, including “The principal change was…” and “In contrast, south side is…” However, control of sentence structure is weak, and many sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, verb forms or word order. For example, “The map illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the cafe underwent six changes” is followed by a list that does not form a clear grammatical sentence. The sentence beginning “By cafe the main change we can see here” is also difficult to parse. Punctuation is inconsistent, including missing spaces after commas and the fragment “In ,before”. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then add accurate comparison clauses using past and present forms consistently.
