Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response gives a clear overview of the main transformation: the café becomes more varied, gains outdoor facilities, and retains some existing features. It also accurately identifies the kitchen, toilets, central seating, new hot-meals counter, take-away and coffee areas, salad bar, and recycling bins. These details address the task well. To make the account more fully developed, report the outdoor changes more precisely: the new doors are on the southern wall, and the outdoor area contains four tables; the barbecue is beside it to the south-west. The claim that the entrance direction is unchanged is less precise than noting that the entrance remains on the eastern side. Overall, the key changes are selected and compared, with only some details needing sharper description.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing the indoor and outdoor changes. The sequence from the kitchen and former staff rooms to the main hall and exterior is generally easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes weakened by the sentence fragment “Compariong the pre and post redign layouts.” and by abrupt transitions between features. The final paragraph also repeats the idea of an outdoor extension without clearly linking the new doors to the southern wall. Use complete topic sentences and clearer spatial signposting, such as “Along the north wall” and “Outside, to the south,” to make the progression more controlled. The organisation is coherent overall, but some linking is mechanical or unclear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

There is a useful range of task-related vocabulary, including “infrastructural modifications,” “versatile,” “recycling bin,” and “extended area.” These choices help describe the redesign, but inaccurate spelling and word choice are frequent enough to limit precision: “dinning,” “upgradaion,” “Compariong,” “redign,” “cornor,” and “takeawaw” distract from the message. Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “a significant amount of modernisation,” “ensuring a modern feature,” and “displaying the new food item introduced.” Prefer concise, accurate map language—for example, “the café was modernised,” “a coffee bar was added,” and “a barbecue area was installed.” More reliable spelling and natural collocations would make the vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of simple and complex structures, including “while some areas are kept unchanged” and “which is now upgraded into a more dedicated hot meals counter.” However, grammatical control is uneven, and several errors affect sentence clarity. The opening overview omits an article in “cafe underwent,” while “Compariong the pre and post redign layouts” is a sentence fragment. Other examples include “The direction of main entrance and location of toilet is kept unchanged,” where articles and subject–verb agreement are problematic, and “A outside dinnig are with sitting is extension,” which has errors in article use, agreement, and sentence construction. Use complete sentences and check articles, singular/plural agreement, and verb forms. This would make the attempted complexity more consistently accurate.
