Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant changes, including the new coffee bar and takeaway area, the salad bar, recycling bins, and outdoor seating with a barbecue. You also note that the central tables and chairs and the toilets remain. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it gives little clear overview of the main transformation, and some important details are omitted, such as the kitchen remaining in place and the new southern doors connecting the café to the outdoor area. Some locations are unclear or inaccurate, for example describing the outdoor seating as being at the “backside” without specifying the south. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons between the old and new layouts would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a basic before-and-after order, first describing the original café and then the current layout. This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison, and phrases such as “Now a days” signal the shift between the two plans. However, the writing is presented as two dense blocks, with limited paragraphing or clear grouping of related features. Connections between details are often abrupt, as in “At right side there are recyling bins.At right back there is Toilet.” Some references, including “the top two” and “the backside,” are not sufficiently clear. Organise the report into a brief overview and separate paragraphs for the original and redesigned plans, using accurate linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “staff dining rooms,” “serving area,” “Salad bar,” and “Outdoor seating,” so the reader can recognise many of the facilities. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description less precise. “Food taken area” is an awkward label for the takeaway section, while “mess hall” does not accurately describe the central café seating area. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “recyling” and “cleaness,” and repeated reliance on “there” and “area.” Use the plan’s labels where possible and practise precise location and facility vocabulary to make the account clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe locations and compare the two plans, but sentence structures are mostly simple and several attempts at longer sentences are difficult to follow. Errors occur frequently in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. For example, “The whole mindmap show” lacks subject–verb agreement, and “At top there were two staff dining rooms which end with inner doors” uses an incorrect verb form and an unclear clause. The sentence beginning “Inside there was a setup” also runs into several details without clear punctuation. Use shorter, complete sentences first, checking articles and verb forms, then add a few controlled complex sentences with “while” or “whereas” to compare the layouts.
