Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main transformation clearly: outdoor seating and a barbecue are added, the staff dining rooms are replaced, and the serving counter becomes a hot-meals area. You also note that the central tables and chairs and the toilets remain, which gives the reader a useful comparison of the two plans. The response addresses the task and includes relevant details, although some locations are misreported or too vague. For example, the bin is on the eastern side, not “on left after entering,” and the new recycling bins occupy the same position. The outdoor seating is reached through doors in the southern wall, rather than simply being next to the toilets. More precise descriptions of these spatial relationships would make the account more fully supported and accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by descriptions of the original café and its current layout. This helps the reader follow the comparison. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, particularly through repeated sequencing phrases such as “At first,” “On observing,” “Next to,” and “Then.” Some references are also unclear: “on one side” does not specify where the staff rooms are, while “on the one end” leaves the barbecue’s position imprecise. Grouping changes by area—for example, north wall, western wall, and southern exterior—and using clearer links between old and new features would improve cohesion and make the spatial account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “redesigned,” “recycling bins,” “outdoor dining area,” and “converted into.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main changes. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, or collocation problems reduce precision: “staff dinning” is repeated, “toiled” appears instead of “toilet,” and “new thing” is too informal and vague for an academic report. Phrases such as “on the on end” also sound unnatural. Aim for accurate plan vocabulary and avoid conversational wording; naming the feature directly, such as “a salad bar,” is clearer than calling it a “thing.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, especially with agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “The given diagrams is” should use a plural verb, while “There are outdoor seating area” needs a singular construction or a plural noun. In “The place where the tables and chairs was placed remains unchanged,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and “was comverted” contains an incorrect verb form. Several sentences also omit necessary articles or use awkward clause structures. Practise checking each sentence for subject–verb agreement and complete, correctly formed clauses before adding more complex structures.
