Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from a simple café to one with additional food and drink facilities, and you correctly mention the kitchen, hot-meal counter, former staff dining rooms, coffee bar, salad bar, toilets and recycling bins. However, the account is only partly complete: it omits the new outdoor seating and its four tables, the barbecue’s position outside, and the two new southern doors. Some locations are also unclear or inaccurate; for example, the staff dining rooms were along the north wall, not “in the front” of the serving area, and the bin was on the eastern wall. The overview that the café “completely changed” is broad rather than a clear summary of the main spatial changes. Select the most significant additions and describe their positions precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an opening statement, a paragraph describing the former layout and current facilities, and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of the comparison. However, progression within the main paragraph is difficult to follow because several locations and changes are compressed into long, loosely connected sentences. Phrases such as “after it” and “in the place of” do not always make the relationships between features clear, and “today” is repeated without consistently guiding the comparison. The conclusion largely repeats the opening rather than adding a useful final overview. Organise the report into a clear overview and separate descriptions of the old and new plans, using precise links such as “whereas,” “in addition,” and “to the south.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a café plan, including “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “recycling bins,” and “salad bar.” These terms show awareness of the task’s subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the description hard to understand. For instance, “small ground” is not a natural way to describe the seating area, and “the college cafe looked like a restruents” does not clearly express the change in facilities. Spelling errors such as “redisign,” “fectures,” and “dinning” are also noticeable. Build a bank of accurate plan-description phrases, including “seating area,” “was replaced by,” and “was added along the western wall,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to combine information in longer sentences, but control of sentence structure is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “The graph show” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Before the redesign of college cafe was so simple” lacks a clear grammatical subject and article. In “table and chairs was available,” agreement is incorrect, and several clauses are joined without clear punctuation, as in the sentence beginning “Today college cafe are completely change.” Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts to express several changes at once often become faulty. Practise accurate past and present forms, articles, plural agreement, and shorter sentences before combining ideas with subordinate clauses.
