Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the staff dining rooms with takeaway and coffee facilities, the new salad bar, recycling bins and outdoor seating. You also note that the toilets remain in the same place. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the kitchen and central tables-and-chairs area remain, but the serving counter changes to hot meals rather than the kitchen itself changing. The claim that the café’s size has increased is not supported by the plans; the outdoor seating is an added area outside. The barbecue and new southern doors are relevant features, but their locations and purpose could be described more precisely. A clearer overview of the main changes, followed by accurate comparisons, would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response includes relevant comparisons, but the ideas are presented as one long, largely unpunctuated paragraph, so the reader has to work to follow the sequence. Several points are repeated, such as the removal of the staff dining rooms and serving area, and the statements that the toilets and tables remain unchanged. Linking phrases such as “when compared to” and “there is” recur mechanically, while transitions between indoor changes and the outdoor area are not clearly signalled. Organise the report into an introduction, a brief overview, and paragraphs for the interior and exterior changes. Use clear references such as “the former staff rooms” and connect each change to its location.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “recycling bins,” “outdoor seating,” “serving area” and “staff dining rooms,” which helps communicate the main changes. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the cafe size is increased,” “open area” and “the people who want the outside weather.” Spelling errors, including “babecue,” “nomal” and “organised” (used awkwardly in context), also reduce precision. Aim for accurate plan-description language such as “was converted into,” “remained unchanged,” “along the western wall” and “an outdoor dining area was added.” More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the building’s interior from the new facilities outside.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to compare the two plans and use some longer structures, but sentence control is inconsistent. For example, “the cafe is changed very much when compared to previous design.in the kitchen…” runs several ideas together without appropriate sentence boundaries. There are also errors in articles, agreement and verb forms: “the kitchen andtables and chairs inside the cafe remains same” should use a plural subject and a past-tense comparison, while “the toilets also remains same” has a subject–verb agreement error. Capitalisation and punctuation are often missing, making the relationships between clauses harder to follow. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine related points with accurate clauses such as “While the toilets remained unchanged, two doors were added to the southern wall.”
