Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two plans as a before-and-after redesign and mention several important additions, including the salad bar, barbecue and outdoor seating. However, the comparison is only partial: key changes such as the replacement of the staff dining rooms by takeaway and coffee areas, the new hot-meals counter, and recycling bins are not clearly reported. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, for example, “Toilets are at the corner near the less,” and the claim that the café has become “more spacious” is not established by the plans. The overview is also vague rather than summarising the main changes. The response is 12 words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to describe the layout fully. Develop a clear overview and compare the main features more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about the plans and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and “Before rebuild the cafe” signals a move to the earlier layout. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because features are presented in a loose sequence, and several references are unclear, such as “Outside of it” and “opposite to direction of less.” The conclusion repeats the idea of change without adding a useful comparison. Use one paragraph to describe the original layout and another to explain what changed, with clear location references and linking phrases such as “whereas” and “in addition.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “salad bar” and “outdoor seating.” These terms show awareness of the task’s subject. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations make the description difficult to understand: “data about upgrade,” “changes of renovation,” “near the less” and “open to more spacious.” There are also inconsistent forms, such as “Barbecue” being capitalised mid-sentence. Aim for precise plan-description language, including “redesigned,” “located,” “replaced by” and “adjacent to,” and check that each phrase expresses the intended spatial relationship.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the basic meaning is sometimes recoverable. However, grammatical errors are frequent and can make relationships between features unclear. Examples include “the sitting area is changes,” “Before rebuild the cafe,” “Kitchen have not that much area,” and “new cafe have open,” which show problems with verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. Capitalisation after “Overall” is also incorrect. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, while attempts to combine ideas are not consistently controlled. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions of plans, such as “The kitchen remains in the same position” and “The staff dining rooms have been replaced by a coffee bar and takeaway area,” before adding more complex comparisons.
