Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes, including the new outdoor seating and barbecue, the salad bar, and the conversion of the former staff dining rooms into a coffee bar and takeaway area. You also note that the serving counter now provides hot meals and that the bin has become recycling bins. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the staff rooms were replaced by two adjoining service sections, rather than being “partitioned into two different rooms,” and the recycling bins are on the eastern wall, not necessarily in the central area. The overview is relevant but brief, and the response is 10 words below the required minimum. Add a little more precise comparison, such as noting that the toilets and central seating remain, and describe the new southern doors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly” and “Furthermore” help guide the reader, and the main points are generally easy to follow. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical, and some links between details are unclear. For example, “In the main area, where tables and chairs are located, the bin now has replaced with the recycling bin” combines the seating area with a change that occurred along the eastern wall. The final paragraph also groups outdoor features and the salad bar without a clear spatial sequence. Organise the details by location—inside first, then outside—and use clearer references to distinguish the former and current layouts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “layout,” “staff dining rooms,” “outdoor seating,” and “salad bar,” so the reader can understand the main changes. There is some variety in the terms used for new facilities, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal. “Barbeque place” and “Barbeque set up” would be more naturally expressed as “barbecue area,” while “takeaway food corner” is less precise than “takeaway counter.” “Few addition” also shows an inaccurate word form, and “infront” should be written as two words. Aim for consistent, precise labels that match the plan, and avoid substituting vague expressions such as “place” or “set up” for facility names.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “where tables and chairs are located” and a contrast between the former and current serving arrangements. Meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “there are few addition” has a plural agreement problem, and “Other adjustments have also done” is missing the passive auxiliary “been.” In “the bin now has replaced with the recycling bin,” the passive construction is also incomplete; use “has been replaced by.” There are further issues with articles and agreement in “outdoor seating arrangements is now available.” Check verb forms, singular/plural agreement, and sentence punctuation, while retaining the range of structures you have attempted.
