Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You provide a clear overview of the main transformation, identifying the removal of the staff dining rooms, new food facilities and the outdoor seating with a barbecue. The account also accurately notes that the kitchen and toilets remain, and that the bin becomes recycling bins. These points address the task and are supported with relevant details. However, a few descriptions are imprecise: the staff rooms are replaced by takeaway and coffee-bar sections, rather than being removed simply “to expand the sitting area,” and the kitchen is not stated to have been reduced in size. The outdoor area’s four tables and the new southern doors are also omitted. More precise comparisons and fuller coverage of these features would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction and overview are followed by a description of the original café and then its redesigned layout. Time markers such as “Before the redesign,” “Following the redesign” and “Finally” help the reader follow the changes, and the information is generally grouped sensibly. Some cohesion is less controlled, however. The opening overview lists several changes in a compressed sequence, while the final paragraph combines multiple alterations without consistently distinguishing what was retained from what was added. Punctuation around transitions is also uneven, which interrupts the flow. Use clearer sentence boundaries and organise the final paragraph by location or by retained and new features to make the progression more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “layout,” “designated,” “introduced,” “demolished” and “original corner,” so the main changes are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific terms such as “food counters” and “outdoor seating.” However, several word choices or collocations are imprecise: “sitting area” is less suitable than “seating area,” and “new way for hot meals section” does not clearly describe the counter arrangement. Spelling errors such as “dinning,” “seperate,” “enterance” and “twn” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling carefully; this would make the description more fluent and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including the overview sentence beginning “The most notable changes…” and the contrast in “The kitchen was still…” The meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the cafe undergone” needs an auxiliary and a suitable verb form (“the café underwent”); “Salad bar have been introduced” has an agreement error; and “the toilets on the bottom of it” has an unclear pronoun reference and incomplete phrasing. There are also punctuation problems, including the extra comma after “Before the redesign” and missing spaces after full stops. Review past-tense forms, subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries to improve control.
