Student answer (Band 5.5)

The map gives the information about a cafe of the collage. it is mainly about how it looks before and how it look after redesigned.

By having a cursoury glance, it is vived that there are servel changes happend in the cafe. But the biggest change is outdoor seating and barbecue area, as we can see in the map there is a empty place before. But now there is seating and barecue. therefore, as we go inside the cafe. Then is also many changes as we compared to past. For example: there is a bin in the past but now there is many bins.

Moving ahead, there are now take away food and coffee bar at the place of staff dining rooms after redesign. furthermore, there is a new salad bar opposite of recyclings bins and hot meals at the place of serving drinks

In conclusion, there are servel changes happend in the cafe except some like table and chairs and kitchen and toilets are at the same place

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the overall change from the earlier café to its redesigned form and mention several relevant features, including the new outdoor seating and barbecue, the replacement of the staff dining rooms, and facilities that remain in place. However, the summary is only partly developed: important changes such as the new salad bar and the conversion of the serving counter to hot meals are mentioned briefly, while the layout and comparisons are not consistently explained. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the plan shows recycling bins replacing one bin, not simply “many bins,” and the hot-meals counter replaces the serving area for all food and drink, not specifically “serving drinks.” A clearer overview and more precise reporting of the main changes would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction to changes inside the café and then a concluding statement about features that stayed the same. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the body is uneven, and several linking expressions feel mechanical or do not connect ideas clearly. For example, “By having a cursoury glance” and “therefore, as we go inside the cafe” do not establish a clear sequence, while “Moving ahead” adds little to the comparison. The paragraphing also leaves the main changes crowded together. Group the information more logically—for example, describe the interior changes first and the new outdoor area separately—and use direct comparisons to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “outdoor seating,” “staff dining rooms,” “salad bar,” and “at the same place.” This shows an attempt to cover the café’s facilities and changes. However, the range is limited, and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “collage,” “cursoury,” “servel,” “barecue,” and “recyclings bins.” Some phrases are also unnatural or vague, including “the information about a cafe of the collage” and “there is a empty place before.” Use accurate labels from the plan and a wider set of comparison terms, such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” and “remained unchanged,” to make the description clearer and more appropriate to this task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the final sentence makes a useful comparison between features that changed and those that remained. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as in longer attempts. Examples include “it is mainly about how it looks before and how it look after redesigned,” where verb agreement and sentence construction are faulty, and “there is a empty place,” where the article is incorrect. The fragment “Then is also many changes” and the run-on sequence beginning “But the biggest change…” also make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete comparative sentences, checking agreement, articles, and punctuation.
