Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the new outdoor seating and barbecue, the replacement of the staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and takeaway area, and the change from a general serving area to hot meals. You also note that the kitchen and toilets remain in place. However, the overview is vague (“several changes”) and does not clearly summarise the main pattern of redesign. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the staff dining rooms were along the top wall, not “in the middle,” and the barbecue is outside to the south-west, rather than a room within the café. The salad bar’s position on the western wall and the new southern doors could also be reported more precisely. Select and locate the main features more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the former and current café. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some linking expressions feel mechanical or do not clarify relationships. For example, “Secondly we look at new cafe” is an awkward transition, while “while” is used in “There was not changing in tables and chairs while, salad bar section…” without a clear contrast. References such as “their” and “the last room” also make it difficult to identify locations or features. Group related changes together—for example, unchanged facilities, replaced counters, and new outdoor facilities—and use clear spatial references to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “replaced,” “remain unchanged,” “kitchen,” and “outdoor seating.” These terms help communicate the main changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the description harder to understand. Examples include “redesign cafe,” “new rooms,” “the last room” for the barbecue area, and “dinning” for dining. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “outdooe,” “sdd,” and “Recycyling.” Use precise plan vocabulary such as “facility,” “counter,” “located,” and “converted into,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid calling an outdoor area a room, since this misrepresents the feature.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is generally recognisable as a comparison of the two plans. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts to combine ideas often produce faulty sentences. For example, “Overall their are several changes” has an incorrect verb form, while “outdooe seating is adding” and “salad bar section is adds” use incorrect verb constructions. Agreement and articles are also inconsistent in “there was a toilets” and “tables and chairs was.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, as in “Secondly we look at new cafe. this was compeletly difference…” Practise accurate past and present forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentences before adding more complex structures.
