Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram show the comparison of the college cafe before and and after it was redesigned.

The cafe before the redesign we can see as some basic facilities which include the kitchen and serving area at the tops left corner where all kinds of food and drinks were served in a serving area. The eatery has large and spacious space for sitting area where table and chairs are places and two were rooms allocated for the staff dining room and at the corner of the canteen toilets were situated , along with the toilets , bin was placed .

After the redesigning the cafe a lot of changes are made in the canteen the kitchen is still at the top left corner meanwhile the area where different variety of foods were served replaced by the place were hot meals were served. The area for the table and chairs are still the same, the dining room of the staff is replaced by the two different sections, one the place where you can take away the food, and the other coffee bar. The salad bar is added additionally on the middle left area meanwhile the toilets and recycling bins are still at the same place , another addition of the section of barbecue corner is added and the seating arrangement is made outdoor.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the main before-and-after changes and include a useful overview of what stayed and what changed: the kitchen and central seating remain, while the staff rooms are replaced by takeaway and coffee facilities. Most details are grounded in the plans, including the hot-meal counter, salad bar, recycling bins and outdoor seating. However, some important features are only briefly reported or unclear. For example, you do not mention the new doors in the southern wall, and the barbecue is described as a “corner” without locating it outside to the south-west. The overview could also state more clearly that the redesign adds outdoor dining and expands the range of food services. More precise coverage of these changes would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally sensible sequence: it describes the original café first and then explains the redesigned layout. This makes the comparison easy to follow at a broad level, and linking expressions such as “After the redesigning” and “meanwhile” help signal change. However, the writing is presented as two long paragraphs with several ideas joined together, so some relationships become difficult to track. The sentence beginning “The cafe before the redesign…” combines the kitchen, serving area, seating, staff rooms, toilets and bin without clear separation. Some transitions, especially repeated uses of “meanwhile” and “along with,” feel mechanical or do not clearly show the relationship between features. Grouping the information into shorter, logically focused sentences and using clearer spatial references would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a plan, including “serving area,” “staff dining room,” “recycling bins,” “salad bar” and “outdoor seating.” These terms help communicate the main facilities and changes, and the meaning is generally understandable. There are, however, some inaccurate or awkward choices and repetitions. “The area for the table and chairs” is less natural than “the seating area,” while “different variety of foods” is redundant. “The section of barbecue corner” is also unclear, and “eatery” and “canteen” are used where consistent reference to the café would be more precise. Aim for concise, conventional map-description vocabulary and avoid repeating “area,” “place” and “section” when a specific facility name is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including comparisons between the original and redesigned café. However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors sometimes make the relationships between features harder to understand. The opening has subject–verb disagreement in “The diagram show,” and “before and and after” contains an unnecessary repeated conjunction. There are also problems with sentence construction and agreement in “The cafe before the redesign we can see as…” and “The area for the table and chairs are still the same.” Several long sentences are joined with commas, creating run-on structures. Use a clear subject and verb in each sentence, check singular/plural agreement, and divide lists of changes into shorter sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would make your comparisons easier to read.
