The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The daigram depicts a college cafe before it was redesigned and how the cafe looks now. Overall the right use of space done and four new sections are made and seem thatb new tecnology is also introduced.
As we can see before redesign their is a bin at the east side of the cafe and below their were a toilets. At north west side their was a kitchen and down the kitchen their is a serving area. Their is two staff dining rooms in the north and below their are tables and chairs.
On the other hand in today's cafe the kitchen and toilets are on place. The staff dining rooms become coffee bar and take away food now. Their is a salad bar at the wst side of the cafe. And in the south west their is a barbecue section and infornt of that their is a huge outdoor sitting. The simple bin is replaced by the recycling bin and serving area now become hot meals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main transformation: the kitchen and toilets remain, the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee facilities, and new salad-bar and outdoor areas are added. You also note the change from a general serving area to hot meals and from a bin to recycling bins. This gives a relevant account of both plans. However, the overview is unclear: “Overall the right use of space done” does not clearly summarise the main changes, and the claim that “new tecnology is also introduced” is unsupported by the plans. Some details are imprecise, such as calling the outdoor seating “huge” and not explaining that it is reached through new doors in the south wall. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview, a description of the original café, and a contrast with the current layout. “On the other hand” signals the move to the second plan, and the sequence of locations is generally understandable. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “their is” and frequent sentence openings with “And.” Some references are also unclear; for example, “in front of that” could refer to either the barbecue or the building, and “below their” is difficult to follow. Grouping changes by area—north, west, east and south—and using clearer links such as “whereas” or “in addition” would make the comparisons easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant layout vocabulary, including “north west side,” “serving area,” “salad bar,” “recycling bin” and “outdoor sitting,” so the reader can identify many of the features. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings reduce precision: “right use of space done” is not a natural description, “huge” is an unsupported and informal choice, and “outdoor sitting” is less suitable than “outdoor seating.” There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “daigram,” “tecnology,” “wst” and “infornt.” Use accurate plan vocabulary and check spelling carefully; terms such as “redesigned,” “converted into,” and “located along” would help describe the changes more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and some longer structures, including “The staff dining rooms become coffee bar and take away food now,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, there are some recurring errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and tense. For example, “their is a bin” should be “there was a bin,” while “their were a toilets” has both an incorrect existential form and article/plural mismatch. “The staff dining rooms become coffee bar” also needs a past-tense verb and clearer noun phrasing. The overview sentence, “Overall the right use of space done,” is grammatically incomplete. Practise describing the former and current layouts consistently with past and present forms, and proofread for complete clauses and correct agreement.
