Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main change from indoor staff dining rooms to takeaway food and a coffee bar, and you mention several additions, including outdoor seating, a salad bar and a barbecue. You also note that the kitchen, central tables and toilets remain. These are relevant comparisons and give the reader a general sense of the redesign. However, some important details are unclear or inaccurate: the old plan shows an entrance with two doors, not one, and the new plan adds two southern doors to outdoor seating; the eastern bin becomes recycling bins rather than simply remaining the same. The overview that the new café has “many exit doors” is also imprecise. Develop the key changes more clearly and distinguish entrances from the new outdoor access.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an overview and further paragraphs, and it generally moves from broad changes to particular features. This gives it some organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven: the second paragraph moves quickly between outdoor seating, the salad bar, barbecue, staff rooms and the serving counter, while the final paragraph repeats the door comparison and mixes toilet and bin locations. Linking words such as “however” and “but” are used, but relationships between details are not always clear. Grouping the information into indoor changes, unchanged features and outdoor additions would make the comparison easier to follow. Use clear references such as “the former staff rooms” and avoid repeating the same point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “staff dining rooms,” “take away food,” “coffee bar,” “salad bar” and “outdoor sitting,” so the reader can identify many of the facilities. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description less precise, such as “exit gate” for doors, “barbecue cort,” and “hots meal.” “New facility is added” is also an awkward way to describe changes on a plan. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and natural collocations, for example “entrance,” “outdoor seating area,” “barbecue area” and “hot-meal counter.” Check spelling carefully, as errors such as “illursrated” and “availabe” are noticeable and reduce clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, including “the center part … is same available in today cafe,” but control of sentence structure is weak. Several sentences lack a clear grammatical frame, as in “The map illursrated that how the college cafe today and what the look before.” There are also problems with articles, agreement and verb forms: “new cafe is more facilities are available,” “it replace,” and “there was one exit door available.” Some long sentences join several ideas without clear punctuation, making relationships difficult to follow. Practise forming complete comparative sentences with a subject and verb, such as “The staff dining rooms were replaced by a takeaway counter and coffee bar,” and check tense consistency when contrasting the two plans.
