Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the new coffee bar and takeaway section, the salad bar, recycling bins, and outdoor seating with a barbecue. You also note that the kitchen, toilets, and central tables remain in place, giving the response a relevant overview. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the entrance and exit are described as remaining the same, although the plans show new doors on the south wall leading outside; the original serving area is not simply described as changing into hot meals, and the new outdoor seating is not explained as clearly as it could be. To strengthen the report, compare the plans more precisely and cover the main changes in a clearer, more complete overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an overall structure, with an overview followed by details about the entrance, facilities, kitchen, and outdoor area. This helps the reader recognise that you are comparing the cafe before and after its redesign. However, progression between points is sometimes difficult to follow: for example, the sentence beginning “Next to the bin” moves on to the toilets and then the central tables without clear links. Connectors such as “To begin with” and “Next” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between the features. Grouping the changes by location or by what stayed and what changed, and using clearer references such as “in the redesigned plan,” would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “kitchen,” “tables and chairs,” “coffee bar,” “take away food,” and “outdoor seating.” There are also attempts at more specific terms, such as “recycled” and “constructed.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning harder to understand, as in “entrience,” “exprence,” and “the waste was trowing.” Some phrases are also unnatural for this task, including “the view” and “was enhanced” when describing a facility being added. Aim for accurate, conventional map vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For example, use “was replaced by” for the staff dining rooms and “was added” for the salad bar.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast between the former serving area and the new hot-meal counter. However, grammatical errors are frequent and can make relationships between features unclear. Examples include “the kitchen, toilets, tables and chairs was unchange position” and “the entrance and exit … was remained same,” where agreement and verb forms are faulty. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “inside of shop salad bar was enhanced.” Practise forming clear past-tense passive sentences for changes, such as “The staff dining rooms were replaced by a coffee bar and a takeaway counter,” and check subject–verb agreement in lists.
