Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the general purpose of the plans and mention several relevant changes, including outdoor seating, a barbecue and a salad bar. However, the response reports only a small part of the redesign and does not provide a clear, accurate overview of the main changes. For example, the kitchen is in the upper-left, not the “top right,” and recycling bins are on the eastern wall rather than “at the bottom right”; the toilets, not recycling bins, remain in the bottom-right corner. The comparison of the old and new serving facilities is also missing. The response is 70 words, below the required 150, so it cannot develop the key features sufficiently. Describe the major changes and unchanged features accurately, with supporting location details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview beginning “overall,” and then a further comparison. This gives the reader some indication of the topic. However, the response ends abruptly with “Moreover,” and the ideas do not progress into a complete description of the plans. Connections between features are limited, and the second paragraph repeats the idea that some facilities remain unchanged without clearly distinguishing what changed from what stayed the same. Use a clear sequence—for example, overview first, then describe the interior changes and the new outdoor area—and complete each sentence and paragraph. More precise linking would make the comparison easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “addition,” “outdoor sitting,” “barbeque,” “salad bar,” and “facility,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. There is also an attempt to describe change through “upgraded.” However, the range is narrow and some choices are inaccurate or imprecise: “upgradtions” is not the correct form, “outdoor sitting” is less natural than “outdoor seating,” and “models” is not an appropriate term for the two plans. Spelling errors such as “Howerver” and “remaned” also reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of terms for plan descriptions, such as “redesigned,” “relocated,” “replaced,” and “remained unchanged,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple statements and an attempt at a more complex comparison, such as “It is evident that kitchen facility remained same … in both models.” This shows some effort to vary sentence structure, but control is inconsistent. Articles and verb forms are missing or incorrect in phrases such as “kitchen facility remained same”; a more accurate form would be “the kitchen remained in the same position.” The sentence beginning “overall” also has unclear construction, and the final “Moreover” is left without a completed clause. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including the lowercase opening “overall.” Practise complete, well-formed sentences and check articles, tense, and sentence endings before submitting.
