Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the new hot-meal counter, salad bar, recycling bins and outdoor seating, and you note that the kitchen, central tables and toilets remain. This gives the reader a basic comparison of the two plans. However, some locations are misreported: the kitchen is in the north-west, not the north-east, and the toilets are in the south-east, not the north-east. The staff dining rooms were replaced by takeaway and coffee-bar sections along the north wall, rather than “on the centre.” The overview also says changes occurred in all directions but does not clearly summarise the main transformation. To strengthen the response, give a more accurate overview and describe the key changes and retained features with precise locations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an opening, an overview, and paragraphs describing changes and features that remain. Sequencing expressions such as “First” and “Furthermore” help signal movement through the plan. However, progression is not consistently clear because locations are sometimes grouped imprecisely, and the final paragraph shifts between the kitchen, tables and toilets without a clear organising principle. Several linking expressions are repetitive or awkward, including repeated uses of “Moreover” and “And.” The overview also combines several points in a long, unclear sequence. Organise the comparison by area—for example, north, interior, and south/outside—and use concise links to show how each feature changed or remained.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant plan vocabulary, including “serving area,” “salad bar,” “recycling bins,” “barbecue,” and “tables and chairs,” so the reader can identify many of the features being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the description difficult to follow. Examples include “directionds,” “occurre,” “coved”/“coverted,” and “oustide”; “introduced” is also repeated where more precise verbs would help. Phrases such as “their are several changes happened” and “two or three things” are not suitable for a formal plan summary. Build a bank of accurate location and change vocabulary, such as “located,” “replaced,” “added,” and “remained,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally recognise the intended comparison. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts to combine ideas often produce faulty structures. For example, “their are several changes happened” lacks a correct verb construction, while “It was redesigned and how it look now” is not a complete, well-formed sentence. There are also recurring problems with subject–verb agreement and verb forms, as in “toilets not changed” and “seating area is introduced,” as well as missing articles and inconsistent sentence punctuation. Use straightforward, complete sentences first: “The serving area was replaced by a hot-meal counter,” for instance. Then practise accurate past and present forms when describing changes and unchanged features.
