Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the before-and-after comparison and mentions several relevant features, including the central tables, staff dining rooms, kitchen, serving area, recycling bins and new takeaway and coffee sections. However, it gives only a partial account of the plans: the new salad bar, outdoor seating and barbecue are omitted, and the toilets’ unchanged position is not clearly compared. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, such as saying the staff rooms had “6 members of chair” when the plan shows two rooms with four chairs each. There is no clear overview of the main changes, and the response ends mid-sentence. It also falls five words short of the required minimum. Cover the most significant additions and removals, and summarise the overall transformation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into a description of the café before redesign and one after it, which gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. The transition “Meanwhile” also signals a shift between details. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak: the first description moves between the entrance, seating, staff rooms, toilets and kitchen without a clear spatial route, while the second becomes difficult to follow and ends with “and”. Linking is often mechanical or confusing, as in “Moreover, the opposite of the center” and “the cafe and in the center”. Use separate, complete paragraphs and group details by location or by what changed, using clear comparisons such as “whereas” and “while”.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “tables and chairs”, “serving area”, “recycling bins” and “take away food”, so the reader can recognise several features of the plans. However, the range is limited and word choice or spelling errors are noticeable. Examples include “daigram”, “toli ets” (written as “toli ets” in the response), “coffe”, and the awkward phrase “after a construction”. “Enter” is repeatedly used where “entrance” is needed, and “new things have been upgraded” is vague and unnatural. These choices sometimes make the description harder to understand. Build a more precise set of plan-description terms, and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses basic present-tense forms to describe the plans, but control is inconsistent. Several sentences are run together, particularly the second paragraph, and the final “and” leaves the response incomplete. Errors in articles, agreement and sentence construction appear in phrases such as “there is two staff dining” and “there is tables and chairs available”. Punctuation and spacing also interfere with readability, for example “right side, after” and “changesand”. These problems can make relationships between features unclear. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use simple comparative structures accurately before attempting longer descriptions.
