Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given plans allow us to see changes in school cafe after it was redesigned and how before it was look like. It can be seen that radical changes have taken place in the cafe during redesigning.

Old cafe has a basic structure with kitchen, dining rooms and toilets.Kitchen was located in the top left corner oth the cafe with food and drink serving in the kitchen front. There were 2 rooms for starff to eat their foods. There was a toilet in the bottom right corner near to the bin.

After the modefication, at the present, cafe has some new facilities. They have established different areas for serving hot meals, salad and barbecue. The staff dinning rooms have now become the take away food collecting place and the coffee bar. For customer attraction they have prepared outdoor seating in the outside of the cafe. Also they prepared the recycling bins for remove waste.

overall, the college cafe has witnessed a major development during redesigning process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main change as a major redesign and cover several relevant features: the kitchen remains, the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee areas, and new outdoor seating is added. These details show a sound understanding of the plans. However, some important changes are only broadly described or omitted: the salad bar is on the western wall, recycling bins replace the single bin, and the barbecue is outside beside the seating. The statement that the barbecue is an area for serving is not explicit in the plan, and the location of the old serving counter could be clearer. Your overview is relevant, but a more precise comparison of what stayed the same and what changed would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction and overview, a paragraph about the former café, and a paragraph describing the current layout. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and phrases such as “After the modification” help signal the shift between plans. The final summary repeats the idea of major development, though it adds little after the overview. Some connections between details are also loose: the sentence about the toilet and bin groups two separate features without explaining their positions in relation to each other, while the new facilities are listed without a clear spatial order. Organising each description from one side of the plan to another, and using more precise references, would strengthen progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a redesign, including “facilities,” “outdoor seating,” “recycling bins,” and “major development.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main changes. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “food and drink serving,” “staff to eat their foods,” and “for customer attraction.” There are also spelling errors, including “modefication,” “starff,” and “dinning,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for standard plan-description phrases such as “serving counter,” “staff dining rooms,” and “to attract customers.” More precise terms for locations and functions would also help you describe the layout rather than relying on general expressions such as “different areas.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “It can be seen that radical changes have taken place” and “The staff dining rooms have now become…” The main ideas are generally understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “how before it was look like” has an incorrect verb form and word order, while “Old cafe has” and “cafe has some new facilities” need articles. The sentence “They have established different areas…” also shifts to an unclear subject, and “for remove waste” has an incorrect verb pattern. Punctuation is sometimes missing, as in “toilets.Kitchen.” Work on accurate past and present forms, articles, and infinitive or gerund patterns; these corrections would make your comparisons clearer.
