Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main transformation clearly: the former serving counter becomes a hot-meal counter, the staff dining rooms are replaced by takeaway and coffee facilities, and new salad and outdoor dining areas are introduced. You also note that the kitchen and toilets remain in place, giving the response a relevant overview and covering the key before-and-after changes. However, some details are inaccurate or over-generalised. The bins are described as having doubled in size, but the plans show recycling bins replacing the single bin, not a size increase. The barbecue is outside, beside the outdoor seating, rather than inside the café, and the outdoor seating is not described as an extension of the indoor seating. More precise reporting of these locations would strengthen an otherwise clear account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and then details about the kitchen, interior facilities and new outdoor area. This makes the main progression understandable. However, the information is compressed into two long paragraphs, and several changes are grouped together without clear transitions. For example, the sentence beginning “Bins remained at the same place” moves directly from the staff-room changes to bins, toilets and seating, making the comparison feel list-like. The final sentence also combines the salad bar, barbecue and outdoor seating without clearly distinguishing what is inside and outside. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and detailed comparisons, and organise details by location or by unchanged versus new features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “structural changes,” “replaced,” “introduced” and “same position.” This gives you a workable range for the task, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, several word choices and collocations are imprecise, such as “number of amenities,” “showcase major changes,” “changed into,” and “extended outdoor seatings.” Some spelling errors—“rennovation,” “ammenities,” “cofee” and “intoduced”—also reduce accuracy. Choose standard plan-description phrases such as “facilities were added,” “were converted into,” and “an outdoor seating area was created.” Check spelling carefully and use “seating” as an uncountable noun rather than “seatings.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “The cafe kitchen remain at the same place in both plans” and a relative clause in “the area which was used as staff dining rooms.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent: “The maps illustrates,” “kitchen remain,” and “Bins remained … but there size is now increase.” There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “Serving area located in front of kitchen,” and the long sentence beginning “The inner section” runs several ideas together. Use consistent past and present forms to compare the plans, and check agreement, articles and punctuation. Shorter, complete sentences would make the comparisons more controlled.
