Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad change from an indoor-only café to one with outdoor seating, and note that the staff dining rooms were replaced by takeaway food and a coffee bar. However, the report only partially describes the plans: it omits several key changes, including the salad bar, recycling bins, and the new southern doors, while giving little account of features that stayed the same, such as the kitchen, central tables and toilets. The final paragraph shifts into suggestions for features the café should have added, such as a photobooth and review chart. These are not shown in the plans and do not answer the summary task. Focus on an objective overview and accurate comparisons of the main existing and changed features.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has separate paragraphs and uses basic signposting such as “Overall,” “A further analysis,” and “A glance at the plans,” so there is an attempt to organise the information. However, the progression is unclear: the second paragraph repeats changes already mentioned, and the final paragraph moves from describing the plans to giving personal recommendations. Several sentences are difficult to follow, particularly the overview beginning “in the before layout,” because ideas are joined without clear grammatical links. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by grouped comparisons of the interior changes and the new outdoor area. Use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between features.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant plan vocabulary, including “layout,” “redesign,” “outdoor seating area,” “take away food,” and “coffee bar,” which helps convey the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “major changing,” “staff dinning room,” “ireelavant feature,” and “photobooth section.” The evaluative language about what the café “can” or “unncessarily” build is also unsuitable for a neutral description of a plan. Use precise terms for locations and changes, and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe a feature as being “added,” “replaced,” or “retained,” rather than judging whether it was necessary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to use longer structures, including “before its renovation and how it has changed following the redesign,” but sentence control is weak and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “Overall it is noticeable that the in before layout there are no outdoor seating area is designed” combines incompatible structures and has problems with articles and agreement. “Barbecue section also designed” is missing a finite verb, while “staff dinning room is not designed” does not clearly express that the rooms were removed. Most sentences rely on simple patterns or become run-ons, especially the final sentence. Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences in the past and present, and use accurate articles, plurals and punctuation before attempting longer comparisons.
