Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main change from staff dining rooms to a coffee bar and takeaway section, and you note the new salad bar, outdoor seating and barbecue. You also give an overview that the café changed substantially while the kitchen and central tables and chairs remained. These are relevant features and show that you understand the plans. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the bin was on the eastern wall, not the left side when entering, and the salad bar is along the western wall rather than “front of” the hot-meal counter. The description also omits the new southern doors and gives little detail about the layout of the outdoor area. More precise comparisons and clearer reporting of locations would make the account more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable progression: an introduction and overview are followed by details about the original café, the redesigned interior and the outdoor additions. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Furthermore” signal transitions. However, the progression is weakened by mechanical or unclear linking, including “According to the graph” and “after construction now,” while several details are crowded into long sentences. The final point about what remained unchanged would work better in the overview, rather than appearing as a separate concluding observation. Organise the body around clear comparisons—unchanged features, interior changes and outdoor additions—and use references such as “the former staff rooms” to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “serving area,” “staff dining room,” “recycling bin,” “salad bar” and “outdoor seating.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the facilities and changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the graph” for plans, “the cafe see now,” “foods and drinks were gave,” and “construct new outdoor sitting.” Spelling errors such as “tabel,” “chaier” and “bulid” also reduce clarity and control. Aim for precise map vocabulary and standard collocations, for example “the café layout,” “was replaced by,” and “an outdoor seating area was added.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “On the other hand” and a relative clause in “where all fast food was made.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, tense, agreement and articles sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The represented graph illustrates the plans … that how it see” has an incomplete, ungrammatical clause; “staff dinning room convert” lacks a correctly formed past-tense verb; and “there are construct” does not form a valid present or past construction. Articles and plurals are also often missing or mismatched. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of the former layout and present-tense descriptions of the current one, using shorter, complete sentences before adding complex clauses.
