Student answer (Band 5.5)
In today's fast moving world, trend of watching online movies is growing but there are also some people who believes that the cinemas and theaters still play an important part in cultural values.
People who encourage the use of digital platforms believe that by watching movies online they can avoid the hassle of buying expensive tickects and standing in queues. They think that they can watch movies online whenever they want unlike cinemas and theaters where they have to plan everything for watching a movie like selecting the date and time.
On the other side, people who are fond of cinemas and theaters they believe that there is no charm in watching movie on a laptop. They argue that in today's busy life it is very difficult for families or friends to spend some time togather. They believe that visiting a cinema or a theatre is one of the few options left for them to spend their time with loved ones.
Although the digital platforms like netflix and amazon are much convenient to access I believe that the cinemas has still lot to offer in the world of entertainment. For example if I am having a bad day or I am exhausted from work life I can visit a theatre to watch a comedy show which will refreshen my mood. Additionally, I can meet there new people who matches my vibe but if i watch comedy show online I might still not be happy.
Overall, both digital platforms and cinemas have lot to offer but my prefrence is cinemas and theatres due to their cultural importance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both perspectives and state your preference for cinemas, so the response addresses the main parts of the question. The online-viewpoint paragraph gives relevant practical reasons—avoiding ticket costs and queues and choosing when to watch—while the opposing view focuses on shared experiences with family and friends. However, the task specifically asks about economic and cultural importance, and these aspects are only touched on indirectly. Your personal example about visiting a theatre for a comedy show supports your preference, but the claim that you might not feel happy watching online is not fully explained. Develop the economic and cultural arguments more explicitly and support them with clearer examples to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, your own position, and a brief conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the other side,” “Although,” and “Overall” help signal the direction of the discussion. The progression is generally understandable, but some connections are mechanical, and the relationship between ideas within paragraphs could be clearer. For example, the point about meeting people who “matches my vibe” follows the comedy-show example without explaining how this supports cinemas’ cultural importance. The conclusion repeats your preference rather than drawing together the two arguments. Use more precise referencing and develop smoother links between each claim and its supporting explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital platforms,” “queues,” “cultural values,” and “entertainment.” There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “no charm” and “refreshen my mood,” although some choices are unnatural or imprecise. Spelling errors such as “tickects” and “prefrence,” along with informal wording like “matches my vibe,” reduce accuracy and suitability for an academic essay. Some phrases are also repetitive, particularly references to watching movies online and cinemas or theatres. Aim for more precise collocations and a slightly wider range of terms for the economic and cultural dimensions of the topic, while checking spelling and maintaining a consistent academic register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “Although” and a conditional example beginning “if.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction affect accuracy. For instance, “some people who believes” should use a plural verb, and “the cinemas has” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “people who are fond of cinemas and theaters they believe,” the repeated subject makes the sentence structure awkward. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and review articles and agreement; greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentences more effective.
