Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the growing digital age, some people believe that traditional theatres and cinemas have lost their importance because all entertainment is now available at home. Others, however, argue that these venues remain valuable both economically and culturally. In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives and give my opinion, on which side I support.
Online streaming platforms are cheap and convenient. Users can watch whatever they want anywhere and at a low cost on their smartphones. Viewers do not need to travel from their homes to the cinema, which saves their fare and time. They also do not have to stand in long queues to buy tickets, which are expensive. Moreover, cinemas are often overcrowded, which can make people feel uncomfortable. At home, they can relax in their rooms and enjoy their favorite snakes, and unwind their mood. For instance, after a long day at work, most people feel tired and prefer to watch a movie on their mobile at home rather than travelling to cinema.
On the other hand, cinemas still have significance both in financial terms and from a cultural viewpoint. Firstly, in terms of culture, they preserve our heritage and old memories. Visitors feel connected, when they gather altogether, as a result social bonding strengthens. and they enjoy equally. For instance, on Eid, many families in Pakistan still prefer to go to the cinema to watch a new movie. According to economic perspective, these performance spaces play a vital role in employment ratio. They create jobs for ticket sellers, cleaners and food shops, moreover, they pay tax to the government.
In my opinion, no doubt, online services provides various options and ease to the viewers. But cinemas, preserve our traditions, bring families together and create opportunities for jobless individuals. Therefore, they should not be closed.
In conclusion, although online entertainment is convenient, I believe cinemas are still crucial because they provide jobs and preserve our culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and make your position clear: you acknowledge the convenience of streaming, then argue that cinemas remain important for cultural and economic reasons. The examples about watching a film after work and Pakistani families going to the cinema on Eid help make the discussion relevant. This meets the core requirements well. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that cinemas preserve “old memories” and strengthen social bonds would be more convincing if you explained how shared viewing or local film traditions achieve this. The economic point about jobs and tax is relevant but brief. To develop the response further, explain the consequences of these benefits and connect them more explicitly to why cinemas should continue to operate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. The contrast between the perspectives is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” guide the reader. This is a logical progression. Some linking is less controlled within sentences, however. In “social bonding strengthens. and they enjoy equally,” the full stop interrupts the connection, while “moreover” joins the jobs and tax points awkwardly. The opinion paragraph also repeats ideas already presented in the preceding paragraph rather than extending the argument. Use punctuation to keep related ideas together, and make each paragraph’s progression more deliberate by linking examples directly to the point they support.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “streaming platforms,” “social bonding,” “cultural viewpoint,” and “employment.” There is some variety in how you describe convenience and the value of cinemas. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “favorite snakes” appears to be an unintended word, “unwind their mood” is not idiomatic, and “employment ratio” does not express the intended idea of job creation. Phrases such as “performance spaces” and “enjoy equally” are also unclear in context. Aim for natural combinations such as “relax and unwind,” “create employment,” and “shared experience.” Proofread carefully for spelling and word-choice slips, as these can distract from otherwise understandable ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which can make people feel uncomfortable” and a conditional-style contrast introduced by “although.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “online services provides” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “cinemas, preserve” has an unnecessary comma between the subject and verb. In “Visitors feel connected, when they gather altogether,” the comma is misplaced, and “social bonding strengthens. and they enjoy equally” contains faulty sentence boundaries and capitalization. There are also missing or awkward articles and prepositions in phrases such as “travelling to cinema.” Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, and check that each sentence is complete and correctly joined.
