Student answer (Band 6.0)

As digital world continues to grow, there is an increasingly important concern that theatres and cinemas are no longer valuable to go as people can watch any sort of entertainment on social media. Although, entertainment is easily accessible nowadays on social media and its mostly free, I would argue that theatres and cinemas still hold value both economically and culturally.

On the one hand, people nowadays consider enjoying entertainment on social media as they do not have to pay for it as it's easily accessible and you can watch it during travelling as well. However, there is a large community that still like to go theatres and cinemas with their families and friends as they can spend quality time together while watching the show and it gives them a chance to gossips with as well as laugh together if its a comedy show.

On of the other hand, theatres and cinemas helps in the economic growth as it helps the entertainment industry to showcase their talent on a bigger screen, generate revenue and people get a chance to meet the cast on the stage which result in sales of the ticket. Another significant advantage is the promotion of the culture as in theatres anyone can promote their ideas on a bigger screen and provides a positive image. Entetainment industry also makes a name of itself in the world when their picture gets represent on a bigger screen.

In conclusion, although in the digital age the value of cinemas and theatres are less important but I feel its still needed for both economic and cultural growth as it helps in bringing the community much more closer and also helps in presenting a positive image.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your position clear: online entertainment is convenient and often free, but cinemas and theatres still have economic and cultural value. The examples about spending time with family and friends, generating ticket revenue, and showcasing performers are relevant to the question. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For instance, the claim that theatres promote culture through presenting ideas and creating a positive image is vague; a specific example of a production preserving local traditions or reaching a wider audience would make this more convincing. The economic point about meeting the cast and increasing ticket sales also needs a clearer link. Develop these ideas more fully and distinguish the roles of theatres and cinemas to address all parts of the task more evenly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. The contrast markers “On the one hand” and “On of the other hand” help signal the discussion, and the main ideas are generally easy to follow. However, some connections between claims are abrupt. In the second body paragraph, the move from economic growth to meeting the cast and then to cultural promotion would benefit from clearer sequencing and explanation. The conclusion also repeats the introduction’s position without drawing together the main reasons. Use linking phrases selectively and make each paragraph’s central point explicit, then connect supporting details directly to it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “easily accessible,” “generate revenue,” “economic growth,” and “promotion of the culture,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts to express less familiar ideas, such as entertainment venues “showcase their talent.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “valuable to go,” “a chance to gossips,” and “their picture gets represent.” “Social media” is also used broadly where “online platforms” or “streaming services” would be more precise for watching films and shows. Spelling errors such as “Entetainment” and “gossips” further reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check word forms and spelling during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening with “Although” and a relative clause beginning “as they can spend quality time together.” Meaning is usually understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction remain. For example, “theatres and cinemas helps” should use a plural verb, while “which result in sales” needs agreement with its subject. The opening sentence also has an incomplete construction: “Although, entertainment is easily accessible…” is not properly joined to the main clause. Review punctuation around subordinate clauses and practise checking subject–verb agreement and complete sentence structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to read.
