Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there are plenty of movies and shows. Some people argue that cinemas and theatres are no longer important because movies and shows are easily accessible online. On the other hand, few people are still in the favour of theatres and cinemas despite digitally available movies. I will discuss both views while also give my opinion that why cinemas and theatres are still as important in this digital age.

On one side, there are plenty of people that are in favour of the opinion which says that we do not need cinemas or theatres anymore. Since, all kind of movies, shows or films are digitally available online. To illustrate, there are plenty of OTT platforms available which provide streaming services in return of a subscription fee. For example, we have Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, etc.

On the other hand, many cinephiles (who loves movies and shows) are in the favour if cinemas and theatres. In their point view, they want to gain proper experience of the show by watching it in theatres. It is also very important for the economy. For example, when people go to theatre, they do not just watch a movie, they also temd to buy some snacks amd drinks which helps in the term of tax revenue and eventually in the growth of economy.

In my opinion, i prefer theatres or cinemas over digital movies because of this we get a chance to go out with our friends or family which ultimately lead to have a great time with our close ones.

In conclusion, some prefer watching movies digitaly while others in the favour of theatres. And, I am one of them who prefer cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and make your preference clear: you explain online access through streaming platforms, then support cinemas with the viewing experience and their economic contribution. However, the discussion is uneven and the ideas remain under-developed. The online-viewing paragraph mainly lists platforms, without explaining further why convenience or access makes cinemas less necessary. The economic point is also asserted rather than fully demonstrated, and the final opinion focuses on spending time with family and friends without developing why this outweighs the advantages of online entertainment. To strengthen the response, explain each side with a fuller reason and a specific, relevant example, and make the comparison behind your opinion more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On one side,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in structuring the discussion. However, the linking can feel formulaic, and some connections between ideas are not fully clear. For example, the move from buying snacks to tax revenue and economic growth needs a more explicit explanation. The opinion paragraph also feels somewhat separate from the preceding arguments. Use a wider range of natural transitions and connect each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “streaming services,” “subscription fee,” “cinephiles,” and “tax revenue.” These choices show an attempt to go beyond very basic wording. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “movies,” “shows,” “important,” and “in favour,” while several word-choice and spelling errors reduce accuracy: “in the favour,” “in their point view,” “temd,” “amd,” and “digitaly.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “helps in the term of tax revenue.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the “cinema-going experience” and say that spending “contributes to local revenue” rather than relying on broad or awkward expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “cinephiles (who loves movies and shows)” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors occur across sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “who loves” should agree with the plural “cinephiles,” and “I will discuss both views while also give” needs a parallel verb form (“giving”). The opening “Since, all kind…” is an incomplete sentence, while “which ultimately lead” needs agreement with “which.” Commas and spaces are also inconsistently handled. Practise building complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and punctuation; this will make your varied structures more reliable.
