Student answer (Band 6.0)

some people believe that people can watch all the entertainment online and theatres and cinemas are no longer important, while others argue that culturally and financially the theatres and cinemas are still important. This essay will discuss both views, but I strongly believe that with todays technological advancements the theatres and cinemas are losing their significance.

On the one hand, those who think that theatres and cinemas are significant because of the ecnomics and culture, argue that from past many decades theatres and cinemas are part of our cultures. This is becuase our parents and grandparents used to go to theatres and cinemas and understand about their cultures. They also pay for the tickets which handles the financial part of that. For example, in the past people didn't have mobile phones to watch any content online and they used to go to cinemas for this purpose. Therefore, theatres and cinemas are part of our culture from past many decades and hence they are still relevant and important.

On the other hand, I believe that the view theatres and cinemas are no longer important in the modern age is more convincing to me. This is because the content people watch is more important compared to where they are watching that. The same culturally imporatnt content can be watched on the mobile phones are any latest media. Secondly just like theatres and cinemas these digital platforms are also managining their finances through subscriptions. For example, a person who wants to watch some history related content. He can just get an online subscription and can watch that. As a result, theatres and cinemas are losing their importance.

In conclusion, although theatres and cinemas has some advantages, such as historical significance, but I firmly believe that the same content can be watched on these latest digital devices without much need to travel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion: you argue that online entertainment is making cinemas and theatres less significant. The response also gives relevant examples, such as watching historical content through a subscription. However, the discussion of the opposing view is only partly developed: the claim that these venues preserve culture is mainly supported by saying earlier generations attended them, while the economic point is reduced to ticket payments. The argument for your own view also focuses on convenience and access to content, without fully explaining why this makes the venues less important economically or culturally. Develop each side with more specific reasoning and examples, and make the distinction between cultural and economic importance clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion, and the main position is easy to identify. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some stronger control through paragraphing and progression. However, links between ideas can feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This is because,” “For example,” and “As a result.” Some references are also unclear, such as “that” in “where they are watching that.” Use a wider range of natural transitions and make pronoun references explicit to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital platforms,” “subscriptions,” “historical significance,” and “technological advancements.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the topic beyond very basic language. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “important,” “content,” and “theatres and cinemas,” and several noticeable spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision: “ecnonomics,” “becuase,” “imporatnt,” and “managining.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “from past many decades” and “handles the financial part.” Build a more varied set of accurate collocations for cultural value, revenue, and online access, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause in the introduction and a conditional example beginning “A person who wants to watch…”. Most of the meaning remains understandable, but errors occur across sentence structures and agreement. For example, “theatres and cinemas has some advantages” should use a plural verb, and “the same culturally important content can be watched on the mobile phones are any latest media” has a faulty structure that obscures the intended comparison. The sentence beginning “although” also combines “although” with “but” unnecessarily. Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and separating clauses with appropriate punctuation.
