Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that, importance of cinemas and theatres are decreasing as people can enjoy these on internet, while others say that theatres and cinemas are beneficial for economical and cultural effects. This essay will explain both views, while I think that offline movie places are important for social communication and transaction of money, which develops cultural and economical impacts.

On the one hand, watching movies online offers a private space and eliminates the hassle of commuting to the theatre, at free of cost. People can enjoy the movie at a peacefull environment, if they watch it online at home because there are no noises from the audiences. For example, I went to watch a movie in a theatre. In some scenes, people screamed so much that i missed the context of some situations. Moreover, I needed an extra 2 hours for commuting to the hall, as there was a lot of traffic. However, the next week, I watched a movie at my home and i enjoyed it properly because the environment was calm and I was free from travelling. Moreover, I did not have to spend money for this enjoyment. Therefore, these causes may influence a man watching movies online but socialism is absent in this case.

On the other hand, watching movies in theatre creates the opportunity to engage with people physically, which is beneficial for culture and the transaction of money between consumers and providers is beneficial for economy because it provides workplaces for many people. For example, I went to watch a movie with my friends. in the theatre I met my relatives and introduced them to my friends, by communicating, socialism was developed, which is important for our culture. Moreover, we paid a decent amount for the ticket, which was beneficial for the theatre as there was a lot of staffs working and it was the source of their income, which develops economical benefits.

In conclusion, although watching movies online has several benefits, offline watching should be practised because it is important for communication and provides jobs for people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for in-person venues, linking them to social interaction and employment. The online-view paragraph gives relevant reasons—convenience, avoiding travel, and a quieter viewing environment—and the personal example makes these points concrete. The discussion of cinemas’ economic and cultural roles is also relevant, but some claims are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, meeting relatives and introducing them to friends is presented as cultural development without clarifying the wider cultural value. Your position is clear, though the conclusion mainly repeats it. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely how venues support cultural life and local economies, and develop the comparison between online entertainment and shared public experiences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from online convenience to the benefits of attending a venue is easy to follow, and examples generally appear alongside the points they support. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, particularly through repeated use of “Moreover” and “which,” and some references are unclear, as in “these causes” and “it” in the discussion of staff and income. The long personal examples also make the main argument less direct. Use a wider range of transitions and make each sentence’s reference explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “commuting,” “consumers and providers,” “source of their income,” and “social communication.” However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make the expression less natural. “At free of cost” and “peacefull environment” are awkward or inaccurate, while “transaction of money” and “socialism” do not convey the intended ideas naturally; “social interaction” would be more suitable than “socialism.” There is also repetition of basic terms such as “beneficial,” “important,” and “movie.” Aim for more precise, natural combinations and check spelling. A broader range of accurate vocabulary would make the argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “although,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some sentence patterns are controlled, such as “although watching movies online has several benefits.” However, errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation recur. For example, “importance of cinemas and theatres are decreasing” has an agreement problem, and “in the theatre I met my relatives” needs clearer sentence punctuation and capitalization. The opening phrase “Some people believe that, importance…” also has an unnecessary comma and an incomplete article pattern. Review subject–verb agreement, article use, and punctuation, and break up long sentences when several ideas are joined together.
