Student answer (Band 6.5)

A lot of individual argues that theaters and film houses are no longer necessary in this modern age because so many people can see the movies online. Although some others did not agree with it saying that theaters and cinemas are still essential based on economy and cultural aspect.

On one hand, in the current age more people have access to the internet unlike before when they had to go to the cinemas or theaters to watch a movie or a show so i believe that because of the opportunity they have to watch whatever they want with their phone, television, laptop, and so may other gadget which they can use to watch the program online they may not be willing to go to the cinema or theater in other to save their time. For example, instead of spending 3 hours going to the film house to watch movie they rather stay at home and watch it because it will not take up to that time watching it at home.

More so, watching a movie online saves more money rather than going to the cinema to pay a higher amount of money just to get the same result which you will get at home and with less money spent. For example, there was a time i went to the cinema with my friends, after each of us was done paying for the ticket we found out had spent so much money that we had never spent on watching a move at home together .

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are still important because it provides employment and also some people always want to go out and create moments with their partners rather than watching it at home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development is somewhat uneven. The first viewpoint regarding online entertainment is well-supported with practical examples. However, the second viewpoint regarding the economic and cultural importance of cinemas is underdeveloped; it is mentioned briefly in the final paragraph without sufficient elaboration or specific examples. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that both sides of the argument receive balanced attention and that your own opinion is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', 'For example'). There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the run-on sentence in the second paragraph starting with 'so i believe that...'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are clearly demarcated with appropriate punctuation would significantly improve the flow and logical progression of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'digital age', 'economically', and 'culturally'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'film houses' instead of 'cinemas' and 'so may other gadget' (should be 'many other gadgets'). The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and academic vocabulary related to the topic of media and economics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('A lot of individual argues'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., the lack of capitalization for 'i'). Additionally, some sentences are overly long and lack correct clause structure, which makes them difficult to follow. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
