Student answer (Band 7.0)

In todays digital age, theaters and cinemas transformed the way people consume entertainment. Others argue that they continue to play an essential role in society. This essay will disscuss both perspectives before explaining why i believe these venues remain valuable despite the growth of digital entertainment.

On the one hand, many people consider cinemas and theaters to be less relevant because online platforms offer greater convenience and affordability. People can watch movies, television series, or live performance at any time without leaving their homes. This not only saves travel time and tickets costs but also allows viewers to pause, rewind, or watch content on multiple devices. Furthermore, streaming services provide access to enormous library of international content, making entertainment more accessible than ever before. As a result, many consumers prefer online viewing over visiting traditional venues.

On the other hand, theaters and cinemas continue hold significant economic and cultural importance. Economically, they create empoyement opportunities for actors, technicians, ticket sellers, and many other workers. They also contribute local buisnesses such as restaurants, cafes, and transport services, which benefits from visitores. Culturally, these venus offer unique and immpresive experience that can not be replaced at home. Watching films on a large screen with advanced sound systems or attending live performance creates sense of excitement and emotional connection among audience.

In my opinion, although online platforms has become increasingly popular such as Netfiex, Prime videos, it should compete rather than replace theaters and cinemas. Digital platforms provide convenience, whereas traditional venues offer memorable social, cultural experience and excitement that technology can not fully reproduce.

In conclusion, although online streaming has reduce people's dependance on cinemas and theaters, these venus continue to contribute to economy and preserve cultural traditions. I believe they will remain important even in digital age.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the economic impact on local businesses and the cultural value of the shared experience. The position is consistent throughout the response. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific examples—for instance, mentioning how a local cinema supports a specific type of community event—to further develop the arguments and avoid slight over-generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the economic and cultural points in the second body paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'consume entertainment,' 'employment opportunities,' and 'digital age.' There are some spelling errors (e.g., 'disscuss,' 'empoyement,' 'buisnesses,' 'venus,' 'immpresive') and minor collocation issues (e.g., 'continue hold' instead of 'continue to hold'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider variety of less common lexical items to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'streaming has reduce' (should be 'reduced'), 'dependance' (spelling), and 'platforms has become' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are missing articles in phrases like 'contribute local buisnesses' and 'creates sense of excitement.' The student shows an attempt at complex structures, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents the writing from being considered consistently error-free.
